Did we overpay for Clowe? Yes. But like Lou said, he wanted Clowe and the quicker he signed him the quicker he could move onto other signings (Ryder), so giving him a bit more was a way to guarantee he got the guy he wanted and could move along. Personally I think Clowe will be better than Clarkson and he will make less than Clarkson so if you look at it that way it's not terrible.

I hope for your sake the deal works out. I'm honestly not sure how much Clowe las left. He looked so slow at times last year.

He looked slow all the time last year. He wanted to stay close to his wife and new child so he spent the lockout coaching the SF Bulls (ECHL) instead of playing. I am hoping that he was just out of shape and can pull it back together. Although with his style of game his body won't hold up over time (see example: Morrow, Brenden).

This year will be telling. Is he worn out or was it an off year?

Jonathan Blum on waivers - Right handed defenseman?

Oilers put Linus Omark on waivers too.
guess he'll have to wait a while to get his $6m

would be kind of funny if they lost him to make room for Tree McIntyre, whom they have already had and given away twice (waived once, didn't renew contract once)

I'll actually be surprised if nobody claims Omark.

Rags sign Stepan to a two-year deal worth $6.15 M total.

Nice deal for the Rags; Stepan has developed nicely.

I guess Sather only wildly overpays for over-the-hill, washed up UFAs. :noidea:

Jim O'Brien just cleared them today. He's a useful 4th, maybe 3rd liner.

Stephane Da Costa would need to clear waivers as would Mike Hoffman and David Dziurzynksi.

In essence there probably won't be room for both Hoffman and Da Costa on the big club. At least one of those two guys will likely hit the wire. Da Costa has been very good in the preseason. Hoffman has been meh but has done well at the AHL level in previous seasons.

There is talk that JG Pageau (who has been Ottawa's best forward since the last two weeks of last season) might get sent down because he is not waiver eligible. I certainly hope they don't go that route.

I say Hoffman goes on waivers and clears.

It is looking increasingly likely that the Flyers enter the 2013 season with 7 defensemen each making over $3.5 mill/year on the NHL roster. Somewhat ironically, their defense isn't very good...

$3.5 million is more than both our goalies make this year, too.

The ECHL salary cap is $12,000 a week. Bryzgalov made $385,000 a week in 2011-12 with the Flyers.
