People keep talking about "overpaying", but that isn't the case in the slightest. The intent of the new CBA was take some of the money from the rookies and give it to the veterans. And we're seeing the result of exactly that. Teams now have more to spend in FA and a minimum they have to reach (next year) with a limited number of roster spots, so that money will be divvied up as so.

These new salaries are now the norm and for good reason.

fair enough, I can see them signing someone else and get similar results, I have no problem with losing Frostee

He was the best player on the defense last season. Not sure what you were watching.

That's actually only a slight exaggeration....he was probably the most productive end overall in the rotation.....they should have at least tried to keep him.....and Fanene too....

I think Rucker got overpaid by Cleveland, but Fanene didn't break the bank in New England, so we should have tried a little harder. He's getting like $12 million for 4 years. The Bengals offered him $7 million for 3 years. Lowball as usual.

You going to keep spewing this crap from someone else?

You don't give career backups starter money. You give players who have earned paydays paydays. This is to keep the stars from earning the same amount as the rookies in the top 5 picks. Now teams have money to throw at the Charles Johnson, Vincent Jackson, Carl Nicks, Drew Brees, Payeton Mannings, etc.

There is no reason a rookie QB should make almost as much as Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Tom Brady...but that is what was happening with Stafford and Bradford, etc. That should not be allowed. They fixed that.

They didn't fix it to give career backups ridiculous contracts just because they are free agents. If that is what some teams do, more power to them, there is no need we need to do that.

What needs to happen, Brown needs to pay our starters who deserve the cash, the cash. Then he needs to give FA the gold when trying to sign them, an example would be Mario Williams, or what should have been Nicks or Joseph last year.

Youy pay your starters their due, you give quality free agents who are goign to be starters on your team who has been starters in the past and proved their production the coin also. You keep paying backups, backup money. That is the way it should be.

You disagree? You think we should over pay backups instead of give quality contracts to our own starters and FA who deserve the money?

If you truely believe that, then you must not be Kramer. No way would Kramer say it is okay just to keep paying top dollar for scrubs when we should be getting difference makers that make us better now.

Frostee Rucker was hands down the best player on the defense last season. This isn't even up for debate. I'm not sure what the hell you're talking about.

The current scouting talent in NE and Cleveland has forgotten more about football than Mike Brown or any of his offspring have apparently ever learned.... They demonstrated what the market was for these "back-ups." The players were good - That's why they were signed on day 2 of FA. We'll sign guys that are still available on day 12.

Hillis to the Chiefs. One year, $3 million.

Hillis and Charles should be an interesting one-two punch. Good value, IMO.
