KAEP ROOM? The big story developing on the second day of free agency is the future of Colin Kaepernick. According to numerous reports, the disgruntled San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is on the radar of several teams, including the Broncos, Browns and Jets. His $11.9 million salary becomes guaranteed April 1. The Niners said at the scouting combine that they want to keep Kaepernick despite a 2015 season that was, by all accounts, an unmitigated disaster for Kaepernick on and off the field. The man who helped lead San Francisco to Super Bowl XLVII after replacing Alex Smith at midseason reportedly wants out of the Bay Area.

With CJ gone - the Broncos have an extra 2nd pick. - Malik and Oz may both be 3rd rounders in next year's draft. The Broncos have a lot of ammo to get Kaepernick. Do they redo his contract before he plays?

Broncos and 49ers have agreed on a trade. Just comes down to Broncos and Kaepernick's agent are working on a restructured contract

I traded Kaep to the Broncos in Madden last night and ran a few with my nephew. The kid has skills, but got drubbed 37-20 and 21-0 (rage quit). I was running all over him with Kaep, and I gotta say.......it was kind fun. Pending things pan out with SF, we're going to have an entirely new dynamic to this offense. It's be very, very interesting to see how he plays with some actual weapons on offense.

Just something else I was thinking of.....

Did Elway just not think that Trev was worth the $6mil per? I'd have to think so because if he had known, or had the gut feeling that Brock was gone, you think they'd have put up an offer for Trev. I wonder if they do in fact have big things planned for Todd Davis next year. There are some good FA ILB out there.....

Or knowing Brock was gone still needed the cap space for a QB. I don't think Elway is keen on using Trevor Simien or throwing a mid-round rookie out there. Any FA QB is going to cost some money.

It's certainly odd how everyone is turning away from us. So if not Kaepernick, where do we go now? More and more interesting by the hour here.

Honestly this is where Elway is just incredible. He knows how to look 3 years into the future and see what needs to be done. He doesn't overpanic in the present at the cost of the future. From what I understand the Broncos decided it was either keep Trevathan or Marshall. They like both but have Marshall just a little more highly rated of the two and his injury history isn't quite that of Trevathan. So yeah I do think losing Trev was hard to do but it was purely a business decision of knowing you can only have so much devoted to the ILB position. Throw in we do have depth at the position so knowing even though there will be a bit of a drop off it won't be so terrible that it rocks the defense.

Wouldn't surprise me if the rumor of Kaep wanting to go to Cleveland was more just the 49ers trying to drive up the compensation. They had an NFL insider on earlier today talking about this very thing that he thinks the 49ers are putting out information trying to scare the Broncos and at this point it is the Broncos bidding against themselves. We shall see. Something people figure out very quickly with the Broncos is you don't push Elway too far otherwise he just moves on and you are left with nothing.

Not so sure of this. Bruton is talking with Denver. They won't give him starters money, depends on if a team will bulk at bringing him in with a shot to start...

Bolden wants to return to Denver. I was just texting with him the other day... He isn't going to get starting money anywhere as he is more valueable as a ST's guy. I think Bolden will be back on a 2 year deal.

This seems fishy to me. (Welcome to silly season after all). I'm not buying it. This would require the assumption that Kaepernick would rather play for a dumpster fire team instead of playing for his longtime idol.

I wonder if the agent thinks they can milk more money from Cleveland than from Denver?

Starting today and beyond is where Elway really does make his money. This is when we got guys like Darian Stewart and Emmanuel Sanders. Not the biggest names at the time but huge players within our system. Throw in we should see the new deals for Ware and Clady show up in the next few days giving the Broncos more cap space to work with to make a few more moves.
