The latest twaddle going around facebook. A whole lot of words trying to justify an attempted murder from the "Law and Order" crowd.

1) I believe that anyone who believes enough in their cause to risk personal safety should be celebrated. Some things are more important than personal comfort. And you can't look past the fact that until the police assaulted and tried to kill him - he was safe. I mean, unless you are a bootlicking retard.

2) They weren't enforcing a curfew. They assaulted a peaceful protest on the orders of their boss.

3) The old guy was standing still until they advanced on him. If anyone "quickly ran up" it's the cop who was not engaged. He pushed his hand past the two who were engaged with him to knock him down.

4) It's his phone. A major portion of my job is analyzing mobile phones. I can assure beyond any doubt that there is not current mobile device or app capable of emitting an EMP or "scrambling" signal. And even if it *was* possible, what electronic devices were those cops using? Besides radios? They (obviously) didn't even have body cams. If you believe any of that you are an incredibly stupid bootlicking retard.

I agree with all of it except for "trying to kill him" The were reckless; showed no compassion and displayed disregard for human life but I don't see an attempted murder. If he had died I could certainly see negligent homicide charges being valid but I don't think intent to end his life was there. It was assault (causing bodily harm) and as far from necessary as you can get. Lock the fuckers up but attempted murder seems like overkill to me.

Yeah probably. But at the end of the day, what did he think was going to happen when he knocked a 75 year old off his feet? Not sure what other legalese to throw at it to make sure that asshole gets the harshest penalty for what he did.

Oooo, so close. But not the expression nor it's intent.
Seriously. The level of obtuseness in this idea that we're "erasing our history" by taking down statues or renaming bases is ridiculous.

I think of it as akin to all of the statues of Lenin and Stalin (or similar). They were horrible people who did horrible things and should not be celebrated.

People should be educated on why they were horrible people and what horrible things they did and even why they were celebrated for a period of time (i.e., why was the statue put up in the first place). And then they should be educated on why there were taken down.

And for the record, I don't believe that all of the statues should be destroyed. I've visited museums in other parts of the world that display artwork of fallen dictators with appropriate historical context and have seen how they can be used as valuable teaching aids to ensure that history doesn't repeat itself.

That stair railing you see on the right of that still is literally the steps of Buffalo City Hall. Curfew or otherwise, I don't think there's a more reasonable place that a protester should be able to be than the very literal center of government of the city.

Russia had its own version of the Confederate monument problem. The solution: a sculpture park in Moscow

As you read this you will see A LOT of similarities with the arguments of Trump and his followers and the folks in Russia.

Livepd deleted all their footage of the ambler death that they filmed, right?

/and then the police released their body cam footage with 15 minutes of footage missing, right?

That's a good example though, as the article rightly points out, it's still lacking in some of the historical context it should have.

I was there prior to the 2011 revamp, but I will say that it's a stunning location within the city. And the nearby enormous statue of Peter the Great may be one of the world's greatest visual abominations, so that only adds to the fun.

Good post. There is a difference between erasing history (modifying schoolbooks to ignore/delete certain events for example) and glorifying it (removing statues, changing building names).

For hundreds of years now we've been constantly dragging a certain populace past a bare minimum of human decency. Enough is enough. Especially in moments where there isn't any imposition on these being asked to change. Bring your state's flag if you like. Stop whining and act like decent human beings, snowflakes.

chaos in Seattle includes a library, an outdoor movie, a smoking section, and someone cooking quesadillas.
I can think of many cities that strive for this level of chaos.

Here's a live feed of what's happening in Olympia (the state capitol for those that don't know)
