Washington Commanders vs. Arizona Cardinals
Date: September 29, 2024
Time: 4:05 PM ET
Location: State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Arizona
Broadcast: FOX with Chris Meyers, Mark Schlereth, Jen Hale and the Washington Commanders Radio Network.
Another week and another road game, where the Washington Commanders are underdogs in hostile territory once again. A win will be significant for both teams and could signal a changing of the guard in their respective divisions. The Cards in front of their hometown crowd are favorites to win this one, but for the second consecutive week, the upset-minded Commanders seem determined not to be an easy out for their hosts.
The oddsmakers have appointed the Cardinals as 5-point favorites as I post this. Giving the hosts the obligatory edge generally reserved for home teams. Washington has dominated the series going 77-47-2 the latest showing the Commanders failing to cover as a 6.5 point favorite on September 10, 2023, at Fed-Ex field in Landover Maryland, but winning the game by the final score of 20-16. Histories aside I expect this game to be another nail-bitingly close one between the two.

Washington Commanders vs. Arizona Cardinals - September 29, 2024, As I see it!
In a thrilling matchup at State Farm Stadium, the Washington Commanders edged out the Arizona Cardinals with a nail-biting 24-23 victory. The game was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams showcasing their resilience and determination.
The Commanders started strong, with quarterback Jayden Daniels connecting on a 25-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Terry McLaurin in the first quarter. The Cardinals quickly responded with a field goal, making it 7-3.
As the game progressed, the Cardinals took the lead in the second quarter with a touchdown run by James Conner, bringing the score to 10-7. The Commanders answered back with a field goal, tying the game at 10-10 before halftime.
The second half saw both teams trading blows. The Cardinals’ Kyler Murray threw a stunning 40-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Harrison Jr., putting Arizona ahead 17-10. However, and to the surprise of many, the Commanders’ defense stepped up, forcing a fumble that led to a game-tying touchdown by running back Brian Robinson Jr.
In the fourth quarter, the Cardinals managed to pull ahead with another field goal, making it 20-17. With just two minutes left on the clock, the Commanders orchestrated a dramatic drive down the field. Jayden Daniels found tight end Zach Ertz in the end zone for a crucial touchdown, giving Washington a 24-20 lead.
The Cardinals had one last chance to win the game, driving into field goal range with seconds remaining. Kicker Matt Prater nailed a 45-yard field goal, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Commanders’ lead, ending the game at 24-23.
This victory marks a significant win for the Commanders, showcasing their ability to perform under pressure of enhanced scrutiny following a Nationally televised Monday night game, a shortened work week, and the ability to secure a hard-fought victory on the road. Enjoy the game, everyone!
