Flacco is the anti-Dalton. He has consistently played his best football when it mattered most throughout his career. I too have criticized him unmercifully, and I was wrong about him.

Every Ravens fan I know outside of Cravn isn't very happy about this at all.

Why wouldn't they be? What's to dislike? If you look at the cap hits, his contract is not far out of line with any other top-end quarterback. The alternative was to either a) slap him with the tag and really be in cap jail, or b) let him walk and gamble you'll find someone better.

Because they've spent 1/6th of their cap room on a guy who really has only had that short playoff run of greatness. Now they have to be more frugal with the rest of the roster and pray Flacco doesn't play like he did for most of last year.

Exactly. Now you get a team like the Colts had for all those years around Manning. Marginal players and a team that has to be carried by the QB. Flacco is no Manning.

And the next 2 years its a total of 55 mil. Which is 27.5 mil a year. How is that going to help the cap situation?

A few key points --

1) It's all in how the contract is structured. The large signing bonus is spread out over the life of the deal and I'm sure it's the later years that have the large base salary. Those years are often renegotiated.

2) You can't pay a good quarterback a below market contract. Sooner or later, these guys want to get paid. Flacco got paid what he would have made if he were allowed to walk. What's their next option at qb? What would have you liked them to do?

3) Most of the years Manning was with the Colts, they also had many other star players. Mavin Harrion, Edgeren James, Dallas Clark, Reggie Wayne. They also had two premier pass-rushers. They never chose to employ a good back-up qb..... If they had, they wouldn't have been the train-wreck they were two years ago.

he had a good playoff run.

but face it, every Raven fan was holding his breath praying he wouldn't screw it up for the rest of the team.

Completely disagree. He CARRIED them to the title, and was trying to last year when he got screwed by a receiver and a kicker.

This isn't true... The Ravens D was more likely to screw it up than Flacco. He and Boldin carried that team in the playoffs.

I personally am glad the Ravens gave him th at much. Flacco doesn't scare me as a Bengal fan.

The guys that scare me are the ones worth 20 million. Not Flacco, but then again, that is my opinion.

Whether he scares you or not doesn't change the facts.... The Bengals are Harbaugh and Flacco's bitch. The days of us routinely beating the Ravens ended when Billick got fired.

That is not true, it was the one good thing that Palmer was to this team, a Raven's killer. Had nothing to do with anyone else, it had everything to do with Palmer vs. the Ravens.

If there is one positive to Palmer while in Cincinnati, that was it.

Palmer owned Billick. His record vs Harbaugh is not so stellar.

lol, let them pay Flacco as their foundation crumbles around them. this should usher in a new day for our division, the Steelers and Ravens both stretched so thin they can't keep their teams together, while we ascend. I might just become a homer again.

The Ravens didn't seem to have much trouble with Palmer's Raiders last year.

As Doug said..... That all ended when Billick left.

Doesn't count when the Ravens played the Raiders, because it was a different game plan and personnel. Lewis knew what to play, and Palmer knew how to play it very well, at least against the Ravens.

Palmer didn't always used to be a gimpy old man, he actually used to be pretty decent and a lot of us defended him to Steeler fans who proclaimed that Ben was better .... years ago.
