They're already looking at making some changes, like eliminating AQ bids...so I'm not going to propose anything crazy, even if it might be better. You have to roll with the insanity and tweak it :(

Rule Addition #1: 3-team playoff
Anyways, what if they made a 3-team playoff out of it? #1 could get a berth in the title game, but what if #2 and #3 played in a BCS bowl game? That way we'd get to see #2 Alabama vs. #3 Oklahoma State

Rule Addition #2: All Conference Champs in the Top 25 have a BCS berth
This year, that would include the following teams:
LSU
Oklahoma St.
Oregon
Wisconsin
Clemson
TCU
Southern Miss
West Virginia

Rule Addition #3: Add the Cotton Bowl

Rule Addition #4: Additional At-Large bids picked from the Top 10
If you're not a conference champ, and/or you're not in the top 10, you shouldn't be in the BCS

So anyways, here's what this would look like:

Cotton: TCU vs. Kansas State
Orange: Clemson vs. West Virginia
Sugar: #2 Alabama vs. #3 Oklahoma State
Rose: Oregon vs. Wisconsin
Fiesta: Southern Miss vs. Stanford

BCS Title Game: LSU vs. Sugar Bowl winner

Solutions:
- Both Alabama and Oklahoma State get to play their way into the Championship, rather than getting voted in
- Conferences Championships are given more value
- Finishing in the BCS Top 10 is given more value

I say screw the whole thing, reduce the regular season down to 10 games allowing more time for a playoff.

But if we have to stick with this stupid system, I like your proposal, but I think maybe a #1 vs #4 and a #2 vs #3 playoff might be a little better.

The SEC commissioner proposed a 4 team playoff back in 08, but every other conference (except for the ACC) shot it down...

#1 would be at a severe disadvantage in such a playoff. They would be idle for a month while #2 and #3 got to play each other and tune up for the championship.

4 team playoff

and then 4 BCS bowls with autobids going to conference champs ranked inside the top 14, after that bids go to At Large teams based on where they're ranked

this year it would be

4 team playoff hosted by the Sugar Bowl

LSU vs Stanford
Alabama vs Oklahoma State winners play each other

Rose Bowl would still be Oregon vs Wisconsin
Fiesta Bowl would be Kansas State vs Michigan
Cotton Bowl would be Arkansas vs Virginia Tech
Orange Bowl would be Boise State vs Baylor

little better

2008: #2 Florida vs #3 Texas
Winner Faces #1 Oklahoma in the National Championship
-This could have resulted in a rematch yet reverse of what we have today, if Texas got through Florida.

2009: #2 Texas vs #3 Cincinnati
Winner Faces Alabama in the National Championship
-Only problem is in 2009 you had a 13-0 Boise St and 12-0 TCU.

2010: #2 Oregon vs #3 TCU
Winner Faces #1 Auburn
-This would have been a perfect year for this, as the top 3 teams were undefeated.

So would #2. Under the current system #2 gets a shot, under these new proposed rule changes, #2 has to beat another team to get a shot.

Take 2008 for example. Not only would Florida have to play Alabama, then play Texas to get a shot at Oklahoma. That's 3 top 5 teams UF would have to beat in a row to be champion. May as well have 4 team playoff that way all teams involved have extra games.

yes we should have sir, but we were too big of a threat to Tebow winning his last game

Cincinnati was the perfect team because they had no chance at winning.

and then they could match us against TCU so that an Alabama situation doesn't happen again

I doubt there was a conspiracy to "protect" Tebow from Boise. In 2009, the Sugar picked first, then the Fiesta picked twice before the Sugar got its second pick.

Sugar grabbed #5 Florida, then the Fiesta got to pick #4 TCU and #6 Boise. #3 Cincinnati was the best team available when the Sugar got it's second pick.

So blame the Fiesta bowl, not anyone trying to "save" Tebow from Boise State.

BCS contract comes up again in 2 years... Call your conference office & tell them not to fuck up the BCS again..... Any type of playoff is better than what we have now.

I was actually going to say just the opposite. Say #3 wins in a brutal matchup........guys get all banged up.

Then you matchup a dinged up underdog against a completely healthy and energized favorite.

But I agree with what you said as well. Either way, someone is at a disadvantage more than likely.
