This team has the potential to win 9 games. That said, this schedule is brutal. We lose a few key players and it could flip and be 9 losses. We still don't have the depth to be able to lose players and keep chugging. It's getting better, but we're still a few classes away. The question for me is, do we have enough depth this year to take care of Iowa State and Kansas?

Last years team had that potential as well, MAC, WVU could have had wins against OU, TT, Texas, Kansas, and IAST without much of a stretch, They also had the potential to have had only one win, GAST, as OSU, TCU, and W&M could have turned into losses. Ive always heard it, but believe it more today, football is a game of inches, a fourth and short converted or not can make the difference in a game, and even the season. Look at 1996, WVU was highly ranked, undefeated, then lost to Miami on that blocked punt for a TD, the season ended 8-4, if that punt got through that could have been a great season, I went to the 'Cuse game the next week after that game and watched as punt after punt was blocked, the team was playing scared the rest of the season.

I do think that the depth puts us over the top on some of those L's....playing freshmen and players who have not had time to develope in the system is not a great recipe for success.

When was the last time we have had battles at camp? Tyler and Henry...CBs seem to be going at it pretty well...Lbs seemed to be set but these second year guys are starting to so the potential and why we recruited them.

RB battle seems to be strong....all these things are good for teams IMO and will turn the tide in our favor in these close games.

I read a column in TDP last week. In 2011, WVU went 5-1 in games determined by 14 points or less. Last year WVU went 3-5 in games determined by this same amount.

FINISH...

:agree: That IAST game was the worst finish to a game I've see in a long time, the last one I remember that was close was the tie with sPitt after being up 31-7........

Vividly remember that 96 Miami game. The horrid officiating on the blocked punt aside, everyone in the stadium, except Nehlen, KNEW that punt was going to be blocked. I was screaming at the top of my lungs for a fake... Even had we not picked up the first, Miami was not scoring on our D that day.

That was my freshman year at WVU btw...

OR better yet, have the punter run out the back of the end zone and win the game 7-5!!!!! It was ten years after my senior year.........

If the HEART picks.... 3-1

Unfortunately, my mind say 1-3, a win over Maryland and a loss to Towson, Alabama, and Oklahoma.

Forgive the mind's pessimism.... QB play really scares me still.

I think Trickett can do the job, and will surprise us all IF IF IF IF he can stay healthy. I would like to see a respectable defense, it doesnt have to be the steel curtain, just OK, and the offense finding their mojo again. I am interested to see the response from people on here if indeed you are correct about a loss to a 1AA team, see how it compares with the response to a win over Marshall a few years back.

Just out of curiosity why are you picking us to lose to Towson? They lost a guy who scored 41 TDs last year. Over 50% of offense.

Good question DC.

I think Towson has a good FCS recruiting class coming in this year, like the class Marshall had with Pennington BEFORE the addition of Randy Moss. They will be pumped, and WVU will be on an emotional letdown. I also think Trickett will get pummeled by Alabama...and may be less than 100%. I think Maryland may have a down season this season. This is just personal opinion... like I said I want to be wrong. But I just dont see our football program in a good state right at this moment. Our depth at running back is okay, but not incredible. Our defense I feel will play better, but not awesome. I have a lot of questions... and I don't see a solution. Just my take.

Hey man can't ask for a better explanation than that...

I don't see us losing to them....their strong recruiting class are Frosh at DIV 2....look what playing young guys did to us. I think we beat Towson up good. Plus if we don't I may have to quit my job. Lol

Yep I thought they might fulfill my 3-1 prophecy there for a while. Good game until the second half, I thought we were flat from the players to the crowd.

Yes, everyone seemed to have the wind out of their sails after the KO return, kinda like, "here we go again"
