It's great to be back and doing something I love with my extra time! Thought I'd bring an update on who the Huskers new staff is targeting going into signing day for the 2015 class:

As it stand right now Nebraska has 6 offensive commits in the 2015 so far (WR, 3 OL, RB, TE) [to look at the entire commit list click HERE] It looks like the Huskers are okay with not taking a QB in this class.

Offense

Needs: WR, OT

Nebraska has really narrowed their offensive search down to a few primary targets as signing day approaches:

1. Lavon Alston (3-Star WR) [Ventura, CA] - Alston is a burner 6'0" 4.4 forty type of kid and gave players fits in trying to cover him at the Semper Fi all-america game. He's small (170 lbs) but reminds me a lot of Kenny Bell, except with better moves in the open field. Alston loves Riley and almost committed to Oregon State in November. He just finished a trip to Washington State and will be visiting Nebraska the last possible weekend of the cycle (Jan. 30th). Nebraska has a great shot at getting this kid. He and Morgan would be two of the best WR pulls Nebraska has had in recent memory.

2. Darrin Paulo (4-Star OT) [Sacramento, CA] - Paulo has made waves during his senior season. He's blown up both in size (grew to 6'7" 330 lbs from 6'5" 310 his jr year) and in ability. Every major player that needs an offensive tackle will be in on Paulo (who doesn't do interviews) but Nebraska with Coach Cav has an inside track. Paulo has offers from all of the major west coast schools [Oregon, USC, UCLA etc...] but has yet to choose a school. It seems as though it's coming down to Oregon and Nebraska. Paulo visits Oregon this weekend but has set up an official visit to Nebraska on Jan. 30th. It looks like he is Nebraska's last shot at an OT (besides Gaylord) this cycle and Nebraska will be putting all of their OT eggs in this basket. If he doesn't come here I don't think we see any late offers.

3. Tavin Richardson (3-Star WR) [Duncan, SC] - Richardson was a WR target for the last staff but if Nebraska miss on Alston they could take one last effort on Richardson. The 6'3" 200 lb receiver is a different player but would add physicality to the outside.

4. Nekyle Lundie (3-Star WR) [Tucker, GA] - Lundie's story is odd. He considers himself a Nebraska commit yet he is the only commit Nebraska's new staff has yet to contact. Lundie has grade issues and seems to fit better at Safety than at WR under the new staff. However, Nebraska's new staff could kick the tires of Lundie if they whiff on Alston.

Defense

Needs: DE, LB, S

Given Nebraska's uncertainty at the DE spot (they would certainly prefer to keep Neal and Jones) they might be looking around for some DEs late in the process.

1. Angelo Garbutt (3-Star OLB) [Carrollton, TX] - Garbutt was an Oregon State commit under Mike Riley but has since de-committed. Garbutt is a good OLB presence (6'1" 210 lbs) and also played RB in high school. He is visiting on Jan. 30th. (Visiting Iowa the 23rd).

2. Terez Hall (3-Star OLB) [Lithonia, GA] - Hall's film is fantastic and his frame is good as well. Standing at 6'3" 205 lbs he can play either Safety or LB at the Next level. Hall's recruiting really picked up after his senior year as he exploded onto the scene. Since the end of his senior year Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Indiana and Cincinnati have all come calling. Hall will be visiting with Garbutt on the 30th but will have visits at most of the aforementioned schools prior to that. This likely goes down to signing day.

3. Mohamed Barry (3-Star LB) [Loganville, GA] - Barry is currently a Kansas State commit but like Hall his senior film say his offer list explode. He's fresh off of a Miami visit and will be visiting Nebraska this weekend (the 23rd). Even though I've listed Barry third it seems he is the #1 target at LB for the new staff as they've made it a point to host him first. Barry's rating by some sites is still low but expect that to change as reevaluation takes place. It seems to be down to Miami, Nebraska and sticking with KSU.

4. Adrienne Talan (3-Star S) [Hollywood, FL] - Talan visited back in December and it seemed like he would commit then but something has stalled him. The Huskers seem to be recruiting Talan as a LB and could consider him lower on their board than the other three which would be a reason for the delay. Talan has finished up visits and plans to commit soon. Nebraska could likely take 2-3 of these four so the Husker staff might be trying to sway Barry before accepting Talan's commitment.

5. Benning Potoae (4-Star DE) [Lakewood, Wa] - More of a pipe dream than anything coach Cav and Hughes seem to be trying to get Potoae to consider Nebraska. The Huskers might have a DE spot open and the 4-star would be first on their list. Hard to to see him leaving the left coast though.

6. Emmanuel Olenga (3-Star DE) [Charlotte, NC] - Olenga has been an ECU commit for quite some time but Nebraska is kicking the tires on him to see if he's interested. He definitely has talent, reminds me of Demorya Mixon's tape. A lot of this depends on Jones and Neal.

7. Willie Sykes (3-Star S) [Spring, TX] - In an odd twist Sykes committed to Washington State today after his official visit. However, he is likely still coming on his visit to Nebraska this weekend and if the Huskers can flip McGruder (unlikely) then they would really like to have Sykes as another safety in this class. this is an interesting one to keep an eye on.

8. Kenneth McGruder (3-Star S) [Houston, TX] - McGruder has had an odd recruitment. He committed to Oklahoma State in June, then decommitted in November and finall recommitted in December after his official visit. Speculation has been that if Nebraska hadn't fired Pelini McGruder would have flipped here in December. The new staff is trying to work that angle to see if Nebraska is still in play for the talented Texan safety.

Other names: Chazmyn Turner (DE), David Dorsett (DE)

UPDATE: Terez Hall had an in home visit with Coach Bray tonight... went really well... Hall said that Missouri and Nebraska are his last two visits, and Nebraska is his "biggest" offer so far (would tentatively put us as the leader.)
