Watched the Sharks get jobbed last night, and I thought of you. Hope all is well with the new job and the holidays were fun and joyous (that goes for everybody). Looks like the NHL needs to re-word its rule about high-sticking and goal scoring. I'm not one to blame the refs because San Jose had their opportunities, but man, that was a tough one to swallow. Difficult division, but I think the Sharks can still take it.

Yeah, it was a bad non-call, but unfortunately not a reviewable one.....so the call on the ice stands as bad as it was. That said, the Sharks still have no heart and the better team won. The Holidays were good man, I can't complain one bit and I hope they were every bit as good if not better for you bud. Sorry I haven't been on as much, my new job is keeping my once idle hands very busy ;)

That's a good thing. Glad to hear it. No man ever need apologize for less time spent on message boards. My holidays were great (bit of a cold for three days of it, but nothing that could ruin the festivities).

Things have gotten busy at work for me, too. This New Year thing really gives people some new-found vigor. SLO got some of the most tourism I've seen for Winter, and a lot of new businesses are booming. We still need more head of household jobs on the Central Coast, but I feel pretty good about the "end of the recession"... for now (summer can't come soon enough for an area that relies heavily on tourism and college students). Back to sports, how prevalent are deadline moves for a playoff push in hockey? It doesn't seem to be as common as baseball and basketball, but certainly more common than football. At the beginning of the year, didn't you mention something about them needing a second line defender and maybe a lower-tiered wing? Are those still top priorities, in your opinion? Who would you move? Heatley?

I was at Bacara for our annual NYE respite, and the place was more packed than I'd seen in in 4-5 years. I'm cautiously optimistic about the economy. Off topic: does anybody know anything about golf courses in/around SB besides Sandpiper? I love that course but my bro-in-law and I are looking to branch out and try some other ones.

Don't play much down south that far, but if you're looking for a similar experience with less Southern California atmosphere (still great weather, though), come on up to San Luis Obispo. Dairy Creek is an awesome course designed by local golfing legend Loren Roberts (I use the term "legend" loosely). Or stay in Avila Beach (our mini-Malibu) and play out at the Avila Beach Golf Resort. Great course, and killer wine tasting spots supported by nearby, local wineries in the downtown area, which is home to one of the most beautiful beaches on the Central Coast. With luxurious hotel accommodations nearby, you'll feel like you stumbled upon a little slice of heaven. There are also some reasonably priced public courses in Morro Bay and Pismo Beach (Monarch). I don't work for the Chamber of Commerce... yet. :).

Unfortunately, the family insists on staying at Bacara so I don't see us traveling to SLO. Thanks, though -- sounds like a nice spot.

I was gone for 8 years, and I don't know if I'll leave for any extended period of time ever again. Maybe if I get suckered into going to law school...

speaking from experience, if you DO go to LS, do NOT go to LS in Minnesota.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm pretty much guaranteed to end up at USF as long as I do well on the LSAT. That's where my mom and her law partner went.

Good program if you plan to practice locally.

I'll definitely be in California for the rest of my life. The four years that I spent in Oregon for undergrad clinched that one. If SLO had an ABA accredited school, I would already be going to it. It'll be a good thing to spend another 3 years in SF (especially now that I'm slightly more mature than the last time), but my girl friend's massage business is starting to do really well down here, I love my hometown and I'm lazy, so I'm putting it off for another two years.

The Sharks are not a Stanley Cup team bottom line. They need wholesale changes to have a chance. Of the Big 3, I'd trade Heatley first as he's very one-dimensional. The next I'd trade is Joe Thornton, the guy just doesn't have any heart and no matter what happens (i.e. - letters stripped off), he'll still have a big part in that locker room.....which is really bad. Marleau can be good with the right people I think, he's got the most complete game, but he needs someone to constantly be in his face (I think).

As it stands, unless the Sharks can trade for someone like Shea Weber (NOT GONNA HAPPEN, lol), then they should just stand pat and hope that Niklas fucking Lidstrom retires next year. They're not one or two players away from a Stanley Cup.....they need a heart transplant. I'm glad you had a good Christmas bud, I wish you luck wherever you go for LS.
