Climate change is real. But "respectable" scientists exaggerating its effects, to further their agenda, have reinforced people's idea that it's a hoax.

And getting back to the original question. Whether "we" need him is irrelevant. If the voters in his district want him there, then he belongs there, notwithstanding the his apparent douche-bagginess.
