Jamison Hensley of ESPN takes a look at some speculative trade partners for the Ravens in regards to LT Eugene Monroe.

According to Hensley, the Chargers, Seahawks and Giants could all make sense for Monroe based on their current depth at offensive tackle.

By acquiring Monroe, a team would take on his $6.5 million base salary. All of three of these teams could afford to do so.

A trade would result in the Ravens carrying $2.2 million in dead money for the 2016 season and another $4.4 million in 2017.

In regards to potential compensation, Hensley mentions that the Ravens could possibly get a fifth-round pick in return for him, but they could also be asked to kick in a late-round pick to make it work. This is the same compensation as the Broncos received from the Jets in return for Ryan Clady.

———

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Ravens are expected to either trade or release veteran LT Eugene Monroe by the end of the day Thursday.

Yesterday, Ravens HC John Harbaugh confirmed that they’ve received inquiries from teams about Monroe regarding a potential trade.

My understanding right now is that teams are inquiring about Eugene,” Harbaugh said after Tuesday’s practice. “And when you’re in that kind of a situation and there is a possibility of those kinds of things happening, you’re pretty much obligated to pull back and not practice a guy.

“That’s where it’s at right now,” Harbaugh said. “It’s in Ozzie’s hands.

Monroe was absent for the start of mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, which is interesting considering that he has been medically cleared to play following a shoulder injury.

The Ravens No. 6 overall pick on Notre Dame OT Ronnie Stanley and HC John Harbaugh has said that he expects Stanley to win the job this summer.

Shortly after the Ravens took Stanley, speculation began to surface that Monroe could be the odd-man-out in Baltimore, seeing has they could pick up some cap room by releasing him.

Monroe, 29, is in the third year of his five-year, $37.5 million contract that included $19 million guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary of $7.7 million in 2016, but the contract includes no guaranteed this year.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Monroe would free up $6.5 million in cap space while creating $2.2 million in dead money.

His 2015 season came to an end with him appearing in just six games for the Ravens and played 319 total snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

We’ll have more regarding Monroe’s future with the Ravens as the news is available.

I could easily see Seattle or NYG making a push. Both are contenders who desperately need a LT, maybe Seattle even worse than NYG.

I don't see Seattle pulling the trigger on this. I think they're happy with Webb and Gilliam for now. Whether or not that's good....well we'll see I guess.

Seems like Monroe would probably have a better time in Washington than he would in most states though:

Yeah when I saw Seattle mentioned as a landing place for a guy that is a huge weed advocate I just thought not sure Seattle wants that headache even if he could help out.

@Oldschool739...no doubt Monroe can still play, but investing #6 overall on a OT was writing in the wall...his time was gonna be short in BAL.

Now you have to wonder if the kid is truly ready to play LT in this league...most are not.

This is where that stat of them being top-5 for most guaranteed money spent comes into play. They are bottom-5 in the league for cap space heading into next season and bottom-11 the year after that. So they have a ton of money wrapped up already making it difficult once this year is over to get too crazy FA wise.

I wouldn't mind the Seahawks picking him up on the cheap. Give him a one year "prove it" sort of contract

I'm sure someone will pay him more than Seattle can.

Hmmmmm weird they released him before camps are over. Teams always lose players to injuries. You think they could've gotten something for him? Is there more to the story? Does he have a big bonus due soon?
Maybe he's just tired of Harbaugh abusing his players :boink::lm:

Think the Seahawks FO is pretty happy with who they have, but for the right price might be worth a shoot to add to the competion.
