According to MLB Trade Rumors, Edwin Jackson has fired Scott Boras as his agent:

Edwin Jackson To Join Legacy Agency: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

Jackson is the guy who spurned a 3-year contract offer from the Pirates for at least $30 million during the off-season, before signing a 1-year deal for $11 million with the Nationals.

I'm speculating now that he's sorry he didn't take the 3-year deal and the additional multi-millions from the Pirates. (That speculation may be wrong, of course.)

At any rate, it leads to this question: Had Jackson taken the offer from Huntington, would the Pirates have pursued the deal for A. J. Burnett?

All Pirate fans likely will agree that Burnett has been outstanding for the Pirates, with an 11-3 record in 17 starts and a 3.59 ERA (which includes that one terrible start where he gave up a pile of runs in a couple of innings). Meanwhile, Jackson has been pretty good for the Nats..... 5-6 over 18 starts with an ERA of 3.73 and pretty good peripherals.

If it had to be one or the other, I'm happy we got Burnett.

Too bad we didn't get both.

jackson instead of bedard would have been pretty good.
burnett came relatively cheap.
jackson would have been 30M for 3y.

what is bedard's cost and at worst case scenario, we can pursue jackson again this winter and we have more leverage given our explosion this year, and dont have to offer people as much to sample the beautiful dominating house at the confluence of he mighty rivers.

Edwin Jackson firing that windbag Boras is just beautiful!

Also, if you look at it, quite funny looking back on things now.

Could'nt happen to a nicer guy. I LOVE it!

Yea, dumb decision by Jackson this offseason, there were other teams that offered 3/30 type deals to him as well, and he declined. Any longterm deal was better than the deal he ended up signing.

Wasn't Jackson looking for a 5 year deal and that is why he didn't sign a 3 year deal? If Hamels and Greinke don't sign their extentions soon, that is going to be a huge mistake for Jackson, not just a small one. With those 2 sucking up all the top pitchign dollars out there for free agency, there may not be a 3/30 deal even available to Jackson.

Yes he was looking for a 5 year deal... I guess the thinking was that he could take the one year deal at 11 million and try the market again the next offseason to get the long term contract he wanted... If he was successful and pitched well someone might just give him a contract longer than 3 years.

I do not necessarily agree with it... It was a gamble but you can see the logic behind it... Well sort of.
