Is anyone else not impressed by edelman... I am thinking in any non PPR league he is barely startable(in PPR leagues he is a low end WR2 elite WR3). It seems like he is the replacement for Vereen and not for Amendola... And it is up to him to get his yards(I understand he is a good punt/kick returner, but that is different)... I just dont think he has the talent or skills to break the big one often enough... Again if you are in PPR then 10+ catches is an automatic start, since it guarantees you 5+ points without even talking yards... I think i would rather have Dobson than him in a non PPR league...

I am wondering if he is the replacement for amendola or Vereen, maybe my observation was wrong(i know vereen is RB and edelman is WR)...

Sounds exactly like what everyone said about Welker coming in from Miami. You've got to consider that the Jets entire secondary was swarming on Edelman. Don't care who you are, you're not getting YAC when a LB a CB and a safety are devoted to you on virtually every play. I'm on board with Edelman, PPR or not. Once Gronk comes back his yards per catch will rise.

I agree - Edelman is worth playing in PPR but probably not elsewhere.

But who he's "replacing" isn't a real distinction. Amendola reasonably was the replacement for Welker, but Vereen didn't exactly replace Woodhead, although his role would likely have looked pretty different if Gronk were healthy and Hernandez hadn't killed anybody. As it is, Belichick has to build with what he has. Edelman was definitely getting (and catching) the short passes Amendola or Welker or Vereen would get, but as you mention he won't do much more than catch them. His game isn't towering over or outfighting defenders, it's getting to the right spot really fast and catching a ball Brady fired right after the snap.

Things will drop off for him as others get healthy. Dobson and Thompkins (especially Dobson) should look as good or better as the season wears on. I like Dobson's chances, even if right now Brady would like to see his head on a platter.

I'll take the guy that gets 10+ catches every week, please. Yes, in wk 2, the NYJ bottled him up after the catches were completed.

Still cant argue with a guy that gets that many opportunities. Even in standard formats, his yardage in wk 2 was better than what we got from a bunch of good WRs in wk 1.

I also think that the rain played a part in 13-10 final score

I'm just sorry I only got him in one league.....................Brady missed him on a sure TD on that first drive.

Had Brady not overthrown that pass, and Edelman scored that 40+ yd TD. Not only would this conversation not be happening, but everyone would be praising Edelman as a low end WR1...what a difference one play can make, and it wasn't even Edelman that didn't make it.

Well for me the future is obviously Thompkins and Dobson
however for today's argument Edelman is the one in PPR (obviously) the only player Brady trusts..
and as Treff said he was one bad pass from being a low end wr1 ppr or not
i placed Vereen on Ir and was lucky enough to get Edelman and to my joy started him at flex and banged out a big 26 points with him last night...

watching him play last night and last week i do believe he is the Welker replacement
but does that matter .. he is who we thought he was ( lol ) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_N1OjGhIFc]Dennis Green Flips - YouTube[/ame]

Not to mention the fact that he has tremendous after the catch ability. I know the Jets focused on him, but I am still really surprised he was unable to break a single big play.

Edelman is a surefire top 20 WR, maybe top 15 until Amendola gets back. At that point, he will be a match-up based flex play or bye week replacement. He is a good football player and the only receiver that Brady has even a semblance of trust in. Don't think Dobson is a better start because he made one play on a bad coverage. He also made a ton of rookie mistakes that will get him benched as soon as the Pats can afford to do so.

Good post Tlance. I say Edleman is startable until Dola gets back; th arrival of Gronk will cut into his targets but will free him up to where he only has one guy to beat after the catch. I mean, was it just me or did it seem like there were 15 guys on the field and 10 of them were all over his ass everytime he caught a ball? Either way, one of the rooks may break out but safe money is on Edleman.

There's too much upside that needs game reps to unlock to get him benched for too long. Last night wasn't a great game but he will keep getting reps and play a big role down the stretch. Edelman isn't an outside guy and won't take steady looks from him.

Happy to have him in the two leagues I was able to get him. Will ride him at flex in my .5 PPR until further notice.

I have mixed feelings on Edelman. I think he will fill the vacated role of Wes Welker. So in that respect I can see him targeted a lot. (Not to mention the inexperience of the other receivers.)

I had a chance to pick him up this week with the #1 waiver slot, and I passed. I already have Thompkins and Gronk. And I think Thompkins and Gronk hold more "end-of-season" value.

Maybe it was a mistake to pass on him. But Edelman doesn't seem to get the YAC that Welker did. 13 receptions and only 60+ yards?! Brady threw to him because the Jets were giving the Pats the underneath stuff.

If Gronk comes back for week 3, I see a different passing game entirely, one that may not focus on Edelman.

I actually find that statement to be favorable to Edelman owners. As Sam (I think it was him earlier in this post) mentioned, Gronk coming back will = less coverage attention on Edelman.

I'd love to see 4-5 less catches and 40-50 more yards every week, which is what I think is a reasonable expectation for Edelman with Amendola injured, 7-8rec for 120-140yds, as long as Gronk is fully healthy and back to beasting. Doubt Edelman sees the RZ love like he did in wk1 again this year though.

All valid points Smo.

But by considering my entire context, if Edelman is the type of guy that catches a 4 yard pass then gets tackled as in the Jets game (i.e. no or limited YAC), then I don't see Brady or Hoodie being pleased for the same kind of production from him if you have a play-maker like Gronk out there.

He is definitely good after the catch. He broke a couple long TDs last year off of short passes and is one of the better punt returners in the league. Thursday's result was more about the Jets than it was about Edelman. Brady clearly trusts him and he clearly does not trust the rookies.

In tough weather conditions, with very little else going for Brady Edelman still produced 20 points in a PPR. I would take that production from a receiver.

I seem to be outnumbered. And probably for good reason.

But I still feel that Edelman is only valuable for a few more weeks. I don't expect Dobson and Thompkins to keep running poor routes and dropping passes all 16 games. Once they stop making rookie mistakes (not to mention the addition of Gronk), I still feel that Brady will have some solid options to throw to besides E.
