I've been driving the Edelman bandwagon since the middle of last year, so I'm not at all surprised at how things have gone. He is a good, fast, explosive football player.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that this guy beat out Wes Welker for a starting spot last season and was the Patriots' best deep threat until he got hurt.

Which guy? How did he beat out Wes Welker? I sure don't remember that.

I believe Wes got himself benched more than Edelman straight up beat him out. Again, I like Edelman. But if he is our go to guy in the playoffs, we don't have a flexible enough attack to beat the best the league has to offer.

I agree with you. If Edelman is your go to guy you guys aren't going far. Your young receivers and Gronk have to carry the load. That being said, I would take the little guy on my team right now.

I love Edelman's swagger and his passion, but he is not the answer to establishing a dominant passing game.
I have spent 3 years screaming at my TV when Edelman drops a pass in a critical third down situation because his tiny aligator arms couldn't reach the ball (usually, on a hot read).

If Dobson and Thompkins don't emerge, we will be stuck with a very frustrating passing game.

Let's face the obvious here people. Our slot receivers have such huge success because our offense is geared toward targeting them, why cause Brady does not throw the deep ball near as well as he does that short intermediate middle of the field pass. The Pats offense loves to make smaller quicker guys be covered by bigger slower LBs. Wes is better than Edelman of that their is no doubt, benhings last year was more about BB being a bitch because Wes would not sign for less. BB is god damn crybaby when he does not get his way, and typically cuts off his nose to spite his face.

I like him. I just think he has to be a very productive fourth receiver for this team to really work. I wouldn't give him up easily.

The patriots offense is geared to that because that is the weaponry we have. When we had randy moss, we had one of the best vertical attacks ever. Brady can throw a deep ball just fine.

Also, I have no issue with enforcing your will. He is in charge and decides what is best for the team. If you can't buy in to that, we don't need you.

Hey yesterday 2007 called asking you stop living in the past. If you think Brady's arm is the same it was six years ago you are sadly mistaken. But you are right about the offense being geared toward the players we have, but riddle me this Boy Wonder what offense isn't? Why do think the Pats actively pursued Amendola? Because he is some great edge receiver? No he is a short middle of the field guy to support what Tom does best now.

So you are okay with our coach acting like a spoiled little bitch!! Got it I'll remember that for future BB debates, conversations and comments.

There was no even "very good" deep threat available. This is why we didn't sign one, not because Brady can't throw it deep.

Demanding that players do what is best for the team is not being a "spoiled little bitch". It is and always has been the way Belichick has run this team, and it is the way the vast majority of successful coaches have run their team. Championship teams don't let players put themselves above the team. That is never acceptable.

Hey tell yourself what ever it is that helps you sleep at night.

So let's get this straght " You did what was best for your you, and not the team so I am going to bench you, my best receiver". Way to set the example BB.

Who should we have gotten? You are kidding right? I clearly pointed out the Pats actively pursued Amendola because he is best suited for Brady. We got exactly who would should have gotten which clearly makes the point that Tom is not much of deep threat anymore.

What I want you to understand is that Edelman did not beat out Wes, Wes was benched because BB had his depends in knot.

Brady said many times that Randy made it easy. He would just heave it out there and Randy would run under it.

Brady (publicly) gives all the credit and takes all the blame. It's part of leadership.

Nothing to read into.

I don't see any evidence that it is or isn't the same as six years ago. They don't go deep often enough to get a good sample size. They don't have many receivers really capable of it. They did hit a decent number of long passes last year, before they lost Edelman Gronkowski and Stallworth within a few weeks and were left with nothing but dink-and-dunk for the rest of the year.

I agree with you JDM, but not because of anything lacking in Edelman as a receiver. I have seen what having Welker as the only real target did for us in the playoffs last year. If Edelman is as good as Welker and becomes the only target, we'll get to the playoffs and somebody will sit on Edelman and we'll be gone again. We need a balanced attack.
