Seriously, a good decision. Earl is way too important with his daytime job, no need to have him return punts.

Good choice. Didn't like putting him in that position before he dropped the first one. He's too important to the defense to have him trying to get the extra 5 or 10 yards on a punt

Yeah, I think it is fair to say, we all feel relieved by this move. Those bad decisions cost him the job. Pete doesn't care who you are, mess up like that, it's next man up. Pete is awesome like that.

I was listening to the Brock and Salk podcast and Salk pretty nailed it. I honestly don't care if our punt return fair catches the ball every time. The extra 5-10 yards isn't worth it if it means risky ET.

It was an awful idea, everyone knew it was an awful idea besides PC an ET, and thank god it's over. He had no feel for the position and a punt returner that doesn't know when to fair catch is going to have his season ended before the halfway mark. All we need is someone with sure hands that can pick up a few yards when the opportunity presents itself, and ET clearly isn't even that.

Happy about this also... You can't reign in the intensity of Earl ... There is no way to stop him from being overly aggressive and taking chances ... You saw that clearly in the first game... He'll try to catch the ball and hit someone at the same time.. Earl belongs right where he is at the safety position...

Couple thoughts here.

First on the idea of putting your best defender back there to return punts..... I wasn't as against it originally as some. Mainly because I trust Pete and have stopped doubting his decisions..... the man is gold in my eyes after the boulder sized balls he showed starting his too short third round quarterback over his high priced FA addition......... His mindset is ALWAYS compete, and if your all pro free safety gives you the best change to compete... im in. These guys dont know how to turn that off.

Which leads me to why im happy its over. Earl doesn't know how to not go 10000% all the time, injury sure, but also all that extra time we all know he was putting in practicing and studying it. I want all his time and effort being focused on the LOB and being the best FS in the league.
