Eagles rookie Carson Wentz out indefinitely

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is out with a hairline fracture in his ribs that could cost the rookie the rest of the preseason.

The Eagles announced Wentz's injury, suffered Thursday on a hit in the team's preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, on Saturday.

"Carson felt some discomfort and soreness as we began this morning's practice. We decided to limit him throughout the remainder of practice and, as a precaution, sent him for a CT scan after practice. The scan revealed a hairline fracture in his ribs," Eagles coach Doug Pederson said in a statement. "We do not know an exact timetable for his return, but we hope to have him back before the end of the preseason."

Pittsburgh on Thursday and atIndianapolis on Aug. 27. Pederson's plan called for Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel to play more in those games. Wentz was expected to play more in the Sept. 1 preseason finale against the New York Jets.

Wentz completed 12 of 24 passes for 89 yards in Philadelphia's preseason opener.

Sucks cause he really needs the preseason snaps. Not really a big deal in the sense they planned on sitting him this year. He looked like a player in the limited time he was in there. Big cannon arm that our scrub WR's couldn't catch and can really escape pressure and run well. Has a looooong way to go but he just looks in command out there.

Seriously, the Rams and Eagles GM/owner are out of their damned mind with those selections and trades. Whatever, hopefully Wentz recovers quickly and the Eagles fanbase gets to see the failure that all other 31 fanbases knew was upon them.

I don't think Wentz will be a complete failure. The problem for the Eagles though is with trading away so much it gets much harder to build a championship caliber roster around him. They put a lot of eggs in one basket and need that player to be a Super Star. Huge risk that has a very small margin for error in order for this plan to work out.

I gasped when he took that hit that made him flip. That's what sucks about preseason, rookies need to get practice reps but every play is a risk of injury. I wish him a speedy recovery.

This is actually good news for him. The less he plays, the better for his career.
