Plus, as a former teammate of Jordan Eberle, we know that he must be good in the room, a quality highly valued by the Oilers' brass.

huh? that doesn't quite make sense.

Sean Avery was a former teammate with Nick Lidstrom, does that automatically make him 'good in the room'?

I expected come back here and find a gif of Tera Patrick.

But yeah, these next several weeks are going to be interesting as a Kings fan.

Didn't say it was a bad deal, just they overpaid a little. Given the prospect pool, the Kings could afford to give up what they gave up. But I think you are underestimating Teubert's ability and value.

We know that last season Teubert faced the toughest minutes while in Regina thanks to Scott Reynolds' Qualcomp study on the Regina Pats. He did acquit himself quite well on a very bad team, so at least that's encouraging.

If he acquitted himself quite well on a very bad team, shouldn't the team have been a tad better?!?

yeah man, understand where you're coming from. Its just Teuberts development as NHL ready hasn't been up to the level amongst his peers in Manchester. THAT being said, the Oilers will have a pretty good shut down D man in a few years. And overall, looking at the big picture with Kings needing a LW (without giving up roster players/top prospects) and the Oilers "rebuilding" getting picks & top 6 dman, it was a win-win for both teams.

I think the Kings overpaid a bit. In a perfect world Teubert or the 1st(pick one) and the conditional should have got the deal done. Penner is signed for one more year so that adds value in my mind over some similar players traded within the last week. Kings needed to make a move like this and everyone knew that. This is a piece the Kings have been missing for 2-3 years and a little overpayment in an area of strength (AHL d-men)for the Kings is ok for me this year.

I guess this means Getzlaf doesn't have to take care of Penner's car anymore.

As far as the trade, Penner is a very good player when motivated, but at times he just doesn't seem all that interested in playing hockey. I think he'll be interested the rest of this season. As for giving up picks and former first rounders, the way I see it, if they aren't in the NHL yet, they aren't number one d-man or first line material. Fair trade for both teams. I'd rather have Penner than the picks.

Well I guess I'll weigh in and give my opinion of the trade. The Kings gave up a lot. Way to much actually. Think about it. A first round pick, a prospect and a 3rd round pick all for a player that has had one 60 point season? One! That's one hell of a steep price. A first round pick is always a good thing and Teubert will be thrown into the Barons lineup to develop. He won't be ready for next year, but who knows he could end up being a big asset for the team down the road.

The reason why the Kings were able to do it was because they could afford to. They didn't have to give up a roster spot and they got to keep Brayden Shenn. From what I'm reading many Kings fans think because of that they won the deal. Short term maybe, but long term (which is right up EDM's alley) they could end up winning this trade. It will be a few years until we see for sure who really won the trade, but for now both sides won.

I equate this trade to the Ryan Smyth deal. Edmonton got nothing for Smyth. Teubert was 4th on the depth chart in Manchester. Tambellini should have demanded Voinov & a 1st. Had he gotten that I'd say Edmonton wins this trade.

I find this hard to believe..amusing..yet not believable.

Who said he's struggling?

Steve Tambellini in response to the Edmonton Sun's Terry Jones asking a question about Colten Teubert's struggles in the AHL. Jones then informed Tambellini that Teubert has been a healthy scratch for the Manchester Monarchs. Tambellini was stunned.
