Which makes me wonder what kind of supplemental discipline Doan will receive? The league doesn't like to show up its officials (even when they completely blow a call), maybe Doan escapes with just a fine?

This just in: a third camera view previously unreleased by FSN Pittsburgh shows Doan mocking Sexton by "jacking off" his hockey stick toward's Sexton's face. Doan is expected to be suspended for the rest of the season.

Doan gets the gate for 3 games. I'm actually approving this personally...this means they're gonna stick with their rule.

i heard Glen Healy this morning on the radio say that no suspension is deserved and he pointed out that 1 game cheque is the equivalent of a new Porsche ... Im sure the new leadership of the NHLPA feels the same way ... theyd sacrifice one players livelihood for anothers game cheque ... not dissimilar than the way the NFL deals with headshots by DB's and safetys ... everyone involved has more of an appetite for fines instead of suspensions

No doubt that was blatant interference and Doan did come from the side (not really blindside, but the league has included lateral in its wording as well), but I didn't see a targeting of Sexton's head in that hit (more of the upper chest/shoulder area).

If anything, I thought his hit on Fowler earlier in the game was much worse (and if we are looking at injuries from the respective hits, Fowler left the game and didn't return while Sexton stayed in the game and by all reports, wasn't injured on the hit).

As well, Tom Gilbert of the Oilers got dinged $2500 for a hit to the head on Matt Stajan in the 3rd period of Saturday night's game.

The NHLPA is going to be able to hold a heck of a party at the end of the season with all these fines.

Slightly OT, but was anyone else impressed with Fowler's rush? If he can do that at 18, in a few years he's gonna be friggin' amazing. Can't believe he fell to 12th in the draft. There's a few GM's that are really going to regret passing on him. I'm looking at you, Sather.

Heheh. Yeah. I just read your post and thought, "Hey, I know that guy." It's a little childish over there sometimes but it's always active and I like the History of Hockey section. Hockey nerds to the extreme.

That bugs me because if you are going to fine Gilbert for his hit what about Morrison's hit on Smid? He left his feet and jumped into Smid while his back was turned towards the boards. Bah...

Meh. I didn't have a problem with the first hit. Hockey is a fast sport and Fowler was off balance. Those collisions happen although they are unfortunate. The second one I don't think Doan actually hit Sexton in the head, but it did look like that was his target. Can't complain too much about a suspension here.
