I finally got it installed! Even though I missed the first preseason game live, I'll have all the reg season games for the first time EVER. I've been wanting it for ~5 years but there was always some damn wrench in the works.

I hope that finally getting it is an omen that we turn it around this year. Playoffs would be great but I'd settle for respectable football and winning some non-division games.

I've been a DTV subscriber for 15+ years. They gave it to me free last year....no idea what's going to happen this year.

I'll be curious to hear how the service is for you over the long haul. I've been wanting to get DTV for a few years now but my gf despises satellite TV so there would be some significant domestic unrest if I press that issue. lol
Of course she is basing her dislike of it from back when she had it in upstate NY over 10 years ago if not longer! I've tried telling her that the San Diego weather should make for a better experience than the lake effect weather she had in NY did but she isn't buying it......yet! ;-)

In all that time have you ever had issues with your service that had you considering going with cable instead?

Nope. Actually, when I moved one time the cable guys "gave me a deal" and I tried it for like 2 days. Drove me crazy (slow receivers, picture quality, etc) and I went back to DTV. When I moved to where I live now, all my neighbors told me I was "crazy" for getting DTV and not AT&T Uverse. All they do now is gripe about AT&T. Rain/Snow fade can be an issue, but honestly it happens to me like twice a year for like 15 minutes....max. The odds of that happening when something good is on are pretty remote, in my experience. I'm sure there are others out there that will tell you horror stories and I'm sure they had a bad experience, but for me I'm sticking with satellite. Also, Sunday Ticket rocks. Your girlfriend won't like that either because it can totally dominate your Sundays in the Fall/Winter.

Thanks Brother!...I will look into that for sure!

NP, man. Side note - I've only had it a few days, but the picture quality is SWEET! I'm in SW Florida, so weather may be an issue when it storms. I'll fill you guys in on whether it's much of an issue or not.

Once DTV added the bandwidth and multiple birds plus the SWM technology they shot to the top or damn near it in terms of picture quality. Posterization was a major problem before especially during sporting events. The other problem was god awful slow guides on the older receivers. DTV has piss poor customer service in terms of existing customers upgrading to the latest gen receivers though. You literally have to go third party and buy the receiver yourself. Some have talked customer service into DTV crediting them that cost though. Another rule of thumb with DTV is to hang up and call back if you aren't getting what you want. Person number five could decide to throw in Sunday Ticket for example.

DirecTV is about 100x better than all cable services put together. Ray it kind of surprises me to hear that comment about their customer service, because I've had them for about 7 or so years and I would say they've had the single-best customer service of any mega-corporation I've ever dealt with over the 3 or 4 interactions or problems I've had.....always responsive and quick.

Yeah it's strictly to do with that one issue. Try getting the latest new generation receiver as a pre-existing customer. Won't happen. Many have tried, all have failed. Sure they will be glad to tell you that they are doing that but it won't materialize. Their system won't let them ship out new gen boxes to existing customers. It is a major flaw. Supervisors are powerless. DTV wastes a lot of money on FedEx, no doubt.

So I need to buy her a nice flat screen for the bedroom & say "enjoy!". ;-)

I have had Direct TV since 1999. I was having issues with the various cable companies who would come and go in my area and gave it a shot. I have never once thought about going back to cable or any other service. Never had a problem or issue and I have found their customer service to be excellent.

I have four receivers in the house and garage, HDTV, DVR and the Sunday Football package, as do most of my friends, and none of us has ever had an issue.

I highly recommend Direct and "NO" I don't work for them.

When I lived in California I had DirecTv and never had any issues, customer service (the two times I had to contact them) were friendly and responsive. The first time was my card needed to download updated software, it typically does it on its own but I was away for 30+ days so turned the power off. Forget the second issue.
Sunday ticket definitely tops everything.
I've had Verizon FiOS and Comcast Xfinity since, FiOS is pretty sweet but the lack of Sunday ticket puts it in second place. Comcast will always be in last until they undergo severe sweeping change, unfortunately they are my only option currently.
As soon as available I'll be switching to DirecTV! Until then, bars and the internet!

If you can't get DirecTv, and you use the internet, consider getting this:
Imation Link Wireless A/V extender

Figured it applied here so here you go

PS3 gets NFL Sunday Ticket

Great to finally have an alternative instead of being locked into having to get DTV. Though $340 is too rich for my blood and I'll stick with streams and NFL Game Rewind for now but at least now I have the option if I find myself with $340 bills burning my pocket.

Figures this shit would happen right after I get it installed. Course, I get hte ticket for free with the sign-up but meh, would have saved me the whole install headache.
