He didn't play for the Giants for long, but I will never forget this guy.

He was the feature player we received in that trade at the time. While Mitch was not a "throw-in", he was not the key.

But yes, while his time actually on the field for us was incredibly short, he is certainly one of the most memorial of all Giants alumni.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for Dave Dravecky . His performance coming back to pitch 8 strong innings against the Reds was a very special day. Every time I hear him speak he inspires me. A big heart and not only a great Giant on the field but off the field also. That was also a tremendous video done by the Giants organization.

For sure. I was just a kid then, so there are a lot of things I have forgotten about those Giants teams of the late '80s, but I will never ever forget Dave Dravecky. The memory of his courage will last forever. It's great to see that this remarkable man is still out there inspiring people and touching lives.

Remembering back to watching that game, it still makes me a little sick to my stomach.

It was on this date back in 1989 that, in his second start after coming back from cancer surgery, Giant Dave Dravecky suffers a broken arm beating the Expos, 3-2. The Youngstown, Ohio native collapses to the ground and clutches his left arm in severe pain after throwing a wild pitch to Tim Raines.

Having never suffered a traumatic injury, I can't even imagine how painful that was. Nice to see Will Clark get there right away to help him.

And you could see in the interview with Clark how much it upset him to talk about it.

I cannot imagine...losing your career, your dominant arm, your whole reason for being in one instant like that out of nowhere.
