Tyler Horan got released from Richmond two days ago. The guy looked so promising after his 2014 season. It looked like a possibility that the Giants would finally get a slugging outfielder from the farm. Alas, it wouldn't happen. He stalled out in San Jose in 2015 and never recovered.

No, the Giants did produce a power hitting OF at about that time...

Friday 6/23 - not a banner day in the Giants organization

Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

Sacramento River Cats (AAA) lost 7-6, blowing a 1-run lead in the 9th

Jarrett Parker 0-3, 3 R, 2 BB, 1 K. Has played all 3 OF positions. I swear to god if the Giants send down Slater instead of releasing Gorkys when Parker is ready....
Ryder Jones 2-4, 2B, 1 BB, 2 R. Jonesy is on FIRE. After a somewhat slow start in April (though it wasn't bad by any measure, .786 OPS), Jones has a .308/.414/.589 1.003 OPS line over his last 40 games since May 1st. 22 of his 45 hits are XBH, sporting a .281 ISO over that time. He even has 4 steals in that time. Real exciting stuff, not just mindless power. Call him up! (was actually called up in the middle of writing this!)
Mac Williamson 1-5, 3 RBI, 1 R.
Chris Shaw 1-4, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K.

Michael Roth 6.2-7-4-3-2-4
Matt Reynolds 1.1-1-1-0-0-1
Derek Law 0.2-1-2-2-4-0. Yikes!

Richmond Flying Squirrels (AA) lost 9-6

Myles Schroder 3-4, 2 R, 2B, 1 BB.
C.J Hinojosa 3-4, 1 R, 1 RBI.
Jeff Arnold 1-4, HR (4), 3 RBI, 1 R.

Jordan Johnson 6.0-6-4-4-3-5
Ryan Halstead 1.0-4-3-3-0-1
Yordy Cabrera 2.0-5-2-2-0-1

San Jose Giants (A+) lost 6-1

Aramis Garcia 2-4, 1 K.
Heath Quinn 2-4, 1 RBI.

Jake McCasland 6.0-7-3-1-1-7
Connor Kaden 0.1-3-3-3-3-0
Michael Cederoth 1.2-0-0-0-0-3

Augusta GreenJackets (A) lost 5-2

Sandro Fabian 1-4, HR (4), 1 R, 1 RBI.
Frandy De La Rosa 1-4, HR (5), 1 R, 1 RBI

Melvin Adon 4.0-7-4-3-3-4
Sandro Cabrera 2.0-1-0-0-1-0
Wilson Santos 1.0-1-0-0-1-0
Patrick Ruotolo 1.0-1-1-1-0-2

Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (A-) lost 15-5

Malique Ziegler 2-3, 2 R, 2 SB (8). Love this dude.
Juan Rodriguez 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K, CS (1)
Manuel Geraldo 3-4, 2B, 1 RBI, SB (8)
Gustavo Cabrera 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 assist

These kids in Salem are running WILD

Pitching? Just.... no. Not worth it

MadBum started in the Arizona Rookie League today. Went 3 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 K. Fastball was in the 90s

Steven Duggar also made his debut.

Jacob Gonzalez has been watching from the stands these first 2 games, with his dad apparently too. And Javier Lopez was in the dugout today.

Bryan Morris is already listed on the Sacramento roster. Guess he figured, with Okert's performance, that he'll get a shot again in SF.

This is the second time I have seen conflicting reports.

First it was Ruggiano, who elected free agency, but then appeared on Sacramento's roster.

This time it's Bryan Morris. He elected free agency, but now he's on the roster. Both guys appeared on the MiLB transaction page too. Ruggiano was assigned to AAA, while Morris was outrighted. IDK

I would HOPE that Reynolds would get the call before Morris in your scenario.

The Chuckie Jones saga has come to an end. This is the guy who got busted on a drug test and decided to retire. Then he changed him mind late last year and came back to serve his suspension. Apparently, with his suspension coming to an end, the Giants felt it best to just release him last week. What a strange story.

It's some logistical thing, they couldn't release him until his suspension was served. Maybe whatever his new venture was interfered with the fact he was still a pro player, so he asked to be released? IDK, but I do know that the only reason he came out of "retirement" was to serve his suspension and the Giants could release him.

Great start by Beede after a string of bad ones. As for the homers, Beede has the 2nd most IP in the PCL which plays into it. His homerun/flyball ratio is at 16.1%, which isn't great, it's about 1% lower than Cueto and Shark, and in the upper third of the league in the PCL among qualified starters.

Maybe whatever his new venture was interfered with the fact he was still a pro player, so he asked to be released? IDK, but I do know that the only reason he came out of "retirement" was to serve his suspension and the Giants could release him.
I guess I don't understand the need to release a player if the player retired, unless that player wanted the option to play for another organization if he changed his mind on retirement.

A team still owns the "rights" to a player that decided to retire. He can't sign anywhere else in MLB or MiLB (including as an instructor, i believe) unless released. I hadn't thought about it before, but I *guess* that if a suspension hasn't been served, the player can't be released ('freed'). Or maybe it just looks better. I suppose that 'retired' players go straight to the 'restricted' list (like guys that just don't show up to spring training) and can't get touched by other teams. I dunno.

IDK
The Bryan Morris saga continues. ESPN's transaction lists him being outrighted to Sacramento but his name has also disappeared from the Sacramento's team roster on their website.

Looked on MiLB transactions page, Morris elected free agency.

So I guess it was a formality to be outrighted, he refused the assignment and elected free agency. Makes sense when you stack it like that I guess.
