I wonder how long Suarez stays in Richmond, and also Cyr. Both are young, but I'd like to see them move up.

Not sure the Slania as starter experiment will continue long, he's a much better reliever.

And I am pleased to see that Crick has gotten a clue as to where the strike zone is. Although not great, he has 7 walks in 15.1 IP, that is way better than the walk per inning rate he has had in the recent past. He also has 17 K's in those 15.1 IP, so that's positive.

The walks are what will hold Gregorio back, he has 24 walks in 39 innings.

Evans specifically said Moronta wouldn't be in Richmond for long, but frankly that entire bullpen has been lights-out. There are definitely 3 or 4 ML caliber arms down there.

I think Crick needed to have a string of success like this. Hey, it's not perfect, but maybe it's the start of something good.

Gregorio still seems like a bullpen arm to me, but other than the walks, he's been terrific.

Shaw's 6th straight game in LF, 7th out of 8 and 13th out of 32 games. It's a thing, folks.

I wonder if Heathcott get's promoted to AAA soon.

Heath Quinn made his debut yesterday, 1-4 with a 2B and K, played RF.
I'm surprised he didn't move up when Williamson got the call. Instead, the Giants moved a catcher, Rene Melendez, from extended spring training to Sacramento. Moves like that generally mean that the org doesn't see a long term need for a new position player. They must be banking on someone getting sent down to Sacramento soon and have no plan to promote anyone from Richmond yet.

I think it is important for Gregorio to get a decent look in SF this season. I THINK he is out of options after this year, so we need to know if he is an asset or not.

You gotta think Gearrin's rope is getting shorter and shorter. There will be an opening for a righty in the pen sooner rather than later.
Here's what I think would happen. Gearrin will eventually be used exclusively to start an inning and not get brought in with inherited runners, if the FO is keeping track of such things. If they aren't, Bochy will keep using him in bad situations and either they leave him out often enough for him to start giving up runs or they get wise and make him a mop up guy. The problem is, I think, that both the FO and Bochy are probably focused mainly on his ERA and from that perspective he looks successful.

I suspect they just want to continually challenge Shaw. AAA is mire of a waiting room while AA is the testing center.

Sorry, but I disagree with everything but the spelling of this post.

The FO knows 100x more about this team than we do. They know he has not been successful with inherited runners. They either think it is SSS, or bad luck or he is working on it. There is exactly zero percent chance they are unaware.

I'm sure that they know a lot more about the players than we can imagine. However, Gearrin continues to be ran out with inherited runners. I guess Bochy may have used him last night with the knowledge that there was a considerable cushion should he blow it again. I think time will tell (i.e., his next few appearances) whether or not they are concerned about his performance with runners on.

I would ignorantly argue that the fact he went out in that situation almost PROVES that they brught him just to work on it. 7 runs is a spring training situation if I ever saw one.

Ray Black had arthroscopic surgery on his elbow this morning. He is out 3-4 months.

The kid was soooo close. He just destroyed his arm throwing that hard. Just because you can doesn't mean you can...

2017 season is done for him. Would have been nice to see if he could have done better this year and make the club.

Yeah, the sad part is he could still throw 98-100 with ease (and it probably would help his control). Seems like a good guy for all intents and purposes.

In other grave somewhat related news, Ian Gardeck underwent Tommy John surgery again the other day. His 3rd time.

Obligatory "Shaw played LF post" 7th straight, 8 of 9, 14th out of 33.

Also, Orlando Calixte was removed mid-game. Probably suffered some sort of injury. Hope he's alright.

D.J. Snelten's numbers at Richmond are phenomenal. High K rate, low walk rate. Low ERA. My guess is that he will move to Sacto in June/July. Tall 6' 7" lefty from Minnesota. He's been a mediocre starter, but has excelled as a reliever.

He not only has incredible counting stats, but his ground ball rate is amazing as well. You couldn't ask for a better relief pitcher.

I'm telling y'all, this Richmond bullpen is spectacular. If this was happening at the ML level somewhere, it would be historical.

Ryder Jones has a very, very solid batting line. He'll need to be protected next year from the Rule V draft. I truly think he is a prime candidate to replace Gonor. Gonor has 1 more year of arbitration, so the Giants don't have to make a decision so soon, but Gonor is so limited (pinch-hit duties and 3B, but as Boch has shown, his starts there are few and far between) while Jones does the exact things Gonor does, and can play LF and 1B without cringing. Gonor is probably slated to make $2M or so, so it's not a huge deal, but the Giants could save $1.5M with Jones too.

Tremendous start for Young Beedeh. 4 Ks, 2 flyouts and 11 groundball outs. That's what you want to see. On the season, Beede has a groundball percentage of 57.3% :thumb:

Dylan Davis is heating up, that's a good sign. Miguel Gomez can hit, old news. Miguel Gomez can't field, old news.

Another spectacular performance from the Richmond bullpen.

Quinn has gotten off to a hot start, good to see him put the injury behind him.

Aaron Hill.... ugh.

When I was at the AFL last November, I remember thinking that Ryder Jones "looks" like a baseball player, and that Tim Tebow does "not look" like a baseball player!

Seriously, Jones has been in the shadow of Arroyo since they were drafted. I think he can be a major league player, and have a nice career.
