Thought I'd leave the 2015 Prospects thread for, you know, 2015 prospects, more in depth. So I will start this new thread summarizing the farm teams and some performances.

Sacto losing 7-3 in the 9th. Duvall with three solo homers. Snodgrass went 5.2 and gave up 6 runs.

Richmond held on to win 5-4. Jackson Williams was 3-4 with two doubles and 4 RBI's. A real AllStaff game. Derek Law gave up three runs in 0.2 innings and made the game close. 26 year old Phil McCormick got the last out for his first save (ERA 1.78 in 14 innings)

San Jose won 2-0 as Chase Johnson went 7 innings, 1 hit, 2 walks, 8 K's, lowering his ERA to 3.01. He is 23 and a 3rd round pick in 2013 from Cal Poly SLO (Go Mustangs!). Villalona and Perez with RBI doubles.

Augusta lost 5-3 in 10 innings. Jonah Arenado went 2-5 with two doubles and an RBI. Johneshwy Fargas was 2-5 with 3 SB (43 on the season in 57 attempts). Mark Reyes gave up 2 runs in 6 innings, 5 hits, 2 walks, 6 K's, 1.66 ERA. He is 22 and a 22nd round pick from 2014. Raymundo Montero went three innings, no runs, no walks, 4 K's, ERA is 1.72. He's 26 and Augusta is as high as he has been in his career.

S-K won 4-2. Andrew Leenhouts is 26 (23 round in 2012) pitched 5 innings, 3 hits, 0 ER, 0 walks, 1 K, ERA 1.57 in 28 innings. He started the season in San Jose and was awful with a 7.36 ERA in only 14 innings. Miguel Gomez was 1-4 and is hitting .349. Jose Vizcaino was 3-4 and is hitting .364 with a triple. He made two errors, though, and now has 4 errors in 15 games.

AZL Giants lead 7-6 in the 9th. Jalen Miller is 0-4 (.333), Kelvin Beltre is 2-4 with a go ahead homer in the 9th. Jordan Johnson pitched 4 innings, 3 runs (1 earned), no walks and 4 K's. In 14 innings he's give up 7 hits, no walks, 18 K's, for a 1.93 ERA. 23rd round pick in 2014 out of CSUN.

The DSL Giants rolled 14-6 today. 16 year old Luis Amaya pitched the last 2.1 scoreless innings (0.84 ERA). Juan Rodriguez was 1-4 with a SB. Sunday, 7/12

Sacto loses to Fresno, 5-3. Duvall with his 21st double. The Tommy Hanson reclamation may have run its course. 3.2 innings, 5 hits, 3 ER, 4 BB, 6 K's, 2 HR's, 5.87 ERA. Broadway with two scoreless innings (1.10 ERA). Cordier with 1 unearned run in the 9th.

Richmond loses 2-1. Engel Beltre was 2-3 with the only RBI, (.298). Kyle Crick took the loss, went 0.2 inning, gave up a hit and three walks and a K. Guy HAS to learn some control! 27 pitches, only 11 strikes. Starter was 28 year old Edwin Quirarte who went 6 innings and gave up one run.

San Jose won 4-1. Jose Reyes went 8 innings and gave up one run, 9 hits, no walks, 7 K's, and lowered his ERA to 8.80. He was dominating at Augusta with a 1.36 ERA, but has been torched in the Cal League. He's 24. Seems to maybe have found something. Christian Arroyo was 3-5 with 2 RBI, now hitting .333. Angel Villalona was 2-4 with a double, now hitting .300. Daniel Carbonell was 0-4 and his average drops to .313.

Augusta won 4-2 to pull within a game of .500. Aramis Garcia was 2-4 with an RBI, Jonah Arenado was 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Johneshwy Fargas was 1-4 with an RBI. D.J. Snelten pitched six innings, giving up 2 runs and 7 K's (ERA 3.05) He was 9th round in 2013 out of Minnesota. He started the year in San Jose and was demoted after a bad start.

S-K won 10-5. 3B Chase Compton was 2-3 with two doubles and is hitting .320. Jose Vizcaino was 2-4 with a double and is hitting .373. RF Julio Pena was 4-5 with a homer (his 3rd) and is hitting .300. Starter Michael Connolly (who writes great books!) went 6 innings, 6 hits, no walks 3 ER, and 6 K's. S-K hit into 4 DP's.

AZL Giants lost 2-0 to the Royals.

No DSL game today.

In the Futures game, K. Mella pitched 0.1 innings and gave up two hits and two runs. Beede pitched one inning and gave up a hit. He was throwing hit 80's (88-89). USA won 10-2 over the World.

Here's Dr. B's take:

AAA Fresno Grizzlies defeated the Sacramento River Cats 7-3:

Adam Duvall(1B)- 3 for 4, 3 HR(20). BA= .267.

Duvall made an adjustment in his footwork in the batters box and went off in this game. Still has a long term problem with contact issues and where he is going to play in the field.

*********************************************************************************

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels edged out the Trenton Thunder 5-4:

Myles Schroder(LF)- 3 for 5, HR(5). BA= .270.
Ricky Oropesa(1B)- 2 for 3, BB. BA= .273.
Austin Slater(2B)- 2 for 4. BA= .286.
Jackson Williams(Catcher)- 3 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .229.
Joan Gregorio(RHP)- 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 4.10.
Stephen Johnson(RHP)- 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.60.

Giants are going to stretch Gregorio out and try him back in the rotation. He remains one of the higher ceilinged pitching prospects in the organization.

*********************************************************************************

High A San Jose Giants blanked the Modesto Nuts 2-0:

Angel Villalona(1B)- 1 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .286.
Chase Johnson(RHP)- 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K's. ERA= 3.01.

Chase Johnson doesn't get a lot of attention, but he's thrown his share of dominant starts in the Cal League and has shown a lot more stamina than he has in prior seasons. I think he would qualify as a sleeper.

*********************************************************************************

Low A Rome Braves outlasted the Augusta Greenjackets 5-3 in 10 innings:

Johneshwy Fargas(CF)- 2 for 5, 3 SB(43). BA= .291.
Jonah Arenado(3B-1B)- 2 for 5, 2 2B. BA= .260.
Ryan Jones(2B)- 3 for 4, BB. BA= .219.
Mark Reyes(LHP)- 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 1.66.
Raymundo Montero(RHP)- 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 1.72.

*********************************************************************************

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes topped the Vancouver Canadians 4-2:

Ronnie Jebavy(CF)- 2 for 5. BA= .258.
Steven Duggar(RF)- 1 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .244.
Jose Vizcaino, Jr(3B)- 3 for 4, 3B. BA= .364.
Richard Amion(2B)- 2 for 4, 3B. BA= .247.
Andrew Leenhouts(LHP)- 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.57.
Cory Taylor(RHP)- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 2.53.
Ryan Halstead(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, Save(3). ERA= 0.00.

.364 is obviously not sustainable, but love what Vizcaino, Jr is doing in his pro debut.

*********************************************************************************

Rookie AZL Giants outscored the Rangers 7-6:

Kelvin Beltre(2B)- 2 for 4, HR(1), HBP. BA= .267.
Mark Wiest(3B)- 2 for 3, 2B. BA= .308.
Scott Price(DH)- 2 for 3, BB. BA= .667.
Byron Murray(LF)- 2 for 5, 3B. BA= .284.
Jordan Johnson(RHP)- 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 1.93.

Giants have solved the problem of PT for Miller and Beltre for now by moving Beltre to 2B. Is it just me, or do the Giants have a lot of Johnson's pitching in their minor league system?

*********************************************************************************

DSL Giants pounded the Twins 14-6:

Beicker Mendoza(RF, 17 yo)- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .299.
Mecky Coronado(LF, 18 yo)- 2 for 4, HR(1). BA= .394.
Francisco Medina(3B, 17 yo)- 1 for 5, HR(7). BA= .235.
Jose Rivero(SS, 17 yo)- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .191.
Jose Patino(CF, 17 yo)- 1 for 2, BB, SF, 2 SB(15). BA= .252.
Luis Amaya(LHP, 16 yo)- 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K. ERA= 0.84.

What is the DSL single season HR record for Giants prospects? 9? I think that was by a 19 or 20 year old. The BA could stand to be higher, but Medina is showing impressive power for a 17 yo prospect. As we have said before, he is doing it with an athletic frame that has room to fill out, too.

Miguel Gomez is practically a Pablo Sandoval clone, he's just not quite as aggressive at the [dinner] plate.

Michael Santos started in Augusta, but went down with a shoulder injury. I thought he was going to miss the rest of the season, but here he is. Live arm, many expected big things this year from him.

I never heard of Vizcaino or Coronado, but they are putting up some scary numbers in the DSL and are both super young.

NEVER get too excited about anything you see in the DSL, but these kids look like they can add to the org depth in a couple years.
