At the same time, where was Rob Blake at Double-D's age?

Point taken...I'm a big fan of Doughty and I think he has all the tools to be a premier defenseman in the league, but hopefully he can handle the big money and the distractions of LA nightlife.

exactly. I know my statement would draw a bit of attention. I think he's right there with Blakey, but I would hate to compare the two stat wise because of how much the game has changed since then.

The two happiest people other than Doughty & Meehan are Suter & Weber. If Doughty is worth 7M they're both worth more & Suter will be on the open market at the end of the season.

I'd really like to see Weber and Suter stay together if they. With both of their contracts being up at the end of this year, I doubt that'll be the case.

That is the true test. We've seen a lot of guys get paid and it suddenly stunts their professional growth. The Kings do have a good veteran presence, so I think he'll be okay.

To go slightly off-topic, could Patrick Kane develop into a better player if his team had some more of those time-tested vets? For some reason, this stuck in my head.

That was actually one of the reasons I almost didn't post that. The way I think of it though is that Richy is like my dog. She's extremely comfortable and outspoken at home, but when she goes to another dog's place, she's extremely shy and likes to hide behind me.
