I don't know the last time I was truly horrified by one of our trades.

This is a punch to the nads in the extreme.

Yeah, we get a lefty reliever who has 1 year of big league experience, a utility infielder, and a LHP prospect for a top-shelf MLB starter. Don't like it. Don't like it at all.

I also don't know why you bother to upgrade your infield defense (Iglesias, Kinsler), then trade away one of your best groundball pitchers.

This deal makes me sick to my stomach. Give a quality starter for a below average 2nd basemen and two prospects. This is a Mat Millian quality move.

Sad to see Fister go! Even sadder to see we got some magic fucking beans for the guy!

IMO the Tigers should have gotten an every day starter for Fister! I sure hope this is the first move in a chain event that will deliver Detroit a 5 tool LF and top notch closer!

Not just a money thing. It is a lack of young players in Detroit's minor league system that are major league ready or at least very close. The ages of these three players are 22, 22, and 24. Tigers are having to resort to adding ''prospects'' from the major league and not from drafting and developing.

Fans were bitching about this, that, and the other thing....after coming close, AGAIN. Well....you are getting changes. The manager, coaches, a fat star, a starting pitcher.....all changed. Gotta break some eggs to make an omelet.

I though it was about hockey and inheritance money iffy? Did I get bad info earlier? Itd better be about a closer, a set up guy and Shin Soo Fuggin Choo, or Im upset.

Even with a guy like Choo or Beltran Detroit should have gotten a better deal. Can't see how they didn;t get a guy like Tyler Clippard thrown in for the back end off the bull pen!

The tigers paid Fister $500,000 in his first year and $4,000,000 this past year. According to Fangraphs, Fisters value for those past 2 seasons was $15,800,000 and $22,800,000 . So the Tigers invested $4,500,000 into fister and he gave them a return of $38,600,000. It would seem to me Doug Fister was the crown jewel as far as tigers investments and they just traded him away. I like the 2 prospects, one of which is the #5 prospect in the Nats organization but I am having trouble seeing how this is anything other than a lopsided trade benefitting Washington. If u notice only the Nats released a statement about how thrilled they are to have made this trade and acquired a young-veteran who has been an excellent regular and post-season pitcher. Fisters post season era with the tigers was below 3. Dom's statement was it's expected for fans to be upset when u trade the known for the unknown.

Tigers signed Joe Nathan for two years/$20 million today. Fister was going to make $8 million-plus per season over the next two years, so the deal is making more sense.

Nathan is 38 and will only pitch 1 inning. With these types of trades the prospects are always the most important part of the trade and also they are the hardest to gauge since their is very little data on them. Ian Krol pitched in the majors and did look pretty good. He has a plus changeup , 4 seam fastball (93.5mph) and cutter along with a below average 2 seam fastball and curve. I like that were restocking our minors and that management is trying to balance a win now mentality without giving away our future.

I agree with your view - except for the first sentence. In THIS trade, the most import part is the money Detroit saved.

So we save about $6 - $7 mill a season on the Kinsler/Fielder exchange (after the extra money DET kicks in) and about $7 mill a season on the Fister deal. We pony up $10 mill per year for Nathan. Jhonny P. ($7.5 mill a season) is gone, and replaced by a low-salary guy (Iglesias). Dare I say we can look at a left fielder and a decent middle reliever? I'd even be down with re-signing Benoit as a setup guy. Currently, assuming Smyly starts, our setup options are Bruce Rondon on the RH side and Krol from the LH side -- each with a whopping 29 innings of major league experience. I'm not comfortable with that.

I think we need to sign Benoit. Him and Nathan make a great back end. Rondon will be ok this year. The starters will be good with the only unknown Smyly starting. He has ML experience but not a whole lot as a SP.
