but here come the Blue Jackets...Winners of four straight and threatening to pass the Oil for 29th place in the league. I was bored and visited an Oilers chat room and the majority of their fans are buying into the 'Fail for Nail' campaign.

its amazing what being out of a race can do for a team. they are playing for fun by the looks of it. losing carter seems to have lightened up that room

they need to bench Jack Johnson pronto ... i know hes historically a suck but he's given them some offensive pop on the blue line

maybe have him sew on the new name plates for all those Jeff Carter jerseys during games

Who are the consensus top picks this coming season. The Caps and Avs should be lottery picks.

Yakupov & Grigorenko at #1 and #2 respectively, and there's a pretty big drop after that.
(ie. good players after that, but not game changers right out of the gate)

That has not been updated in a while. The Caps blurb says it is wait and see on whether or not Dimitri Orlov will ever be any more than a career minor leaguer, ha ha.

Thanks though, i will keep up on it.

I hope CBJ and Mtl get the stars out of this draft.

Edmonton has enough top picks to work with. Fuck 'em.

Yakupov and Grigorenko have been compared to Ovechkin and Malkin in several ways. One way being that althrough Yakupov seems to be the concensus #1 pick that Grigorenko could easily become the better player. That's quite the coincidence when you consider that Nathan McKinnon, who has been compared to Crosby, is eligible for next year's draft and that there is a pending lockout between those 2 drafts.

My guess is that if Roy becomes coach of the Habs then Grigorenko will end up with the Habs one way or another. Roy is currently coaching him in the Q and considering the Habs wouldn't have to trade up much, if at all, in order to get him, I'm sure Roy will be pusing for Gauthier (or whoever their GM happens to be at that time) to make that move.

I like the Malkin/Ovechkin comparisons too, from what I've seen. I do think that Yakupov is more of a finesse guy than OV. I've read some stuff lately that Grigorenko is dropping in some scouts eyes as he has appeared disinterested for long stretches and tends to disappear when things get tough.

MacKinnon looks awesome for next year's draft but other than his hometown I just don't see the Crosby comparison. I've only watched him a few times but his skating sticks out much more than Crosby's ever did. I think in style MacKinnon might end up more of a Modano/Yzerman hybrid. I think he could end up in those guy's stratisphere in achievements too. The kid looks as blue chip as they come.

This years draft is very deep on the blueline.

Ryan Murray
Mathew Dumba
Jacob Trouba
Griffen Reinhart
Morgan Reilly
Slater Koekkook
Cody Ceci

Just to name a few. I want Jacob Trouba in an Isles uni. It probably won't happen though.

Once the team got through the "Where's Nash going" funk, they start to play.

True fact; the official Blue Jackets store is replacing name plates for anyone who has a Carter jersey with Johnson. For free. I LOL'ed

Locally, there is a lot of talk about how Grigorenko would be a better fit for the Jackets. Because he's a Center. And Rick Nash needs a good center.

Yes. That's what they are saying. Supposedly it's coming from the mahogany offices, too. They threw it down to the players on deadline day and said "prove you want to be here". And Nash has responded with 7 points in 7 games with two shorties. Johnson has apparently been a tremendous breath of fresh air in the room too.

The scenario being discussed is if they get the lottery #1, take Mikhail anyway. If they get second, stay there. Anything else, try trade their first and LAs for second overall.

if i were edmonton and ended up w/ a top 2 pick i would trade down, get a top 4 dman with the trade down and maybe a couple extra late picks?, draft a solid d prospect in the mid to late 1st round and go from there

they dont really need any more offensive prospects.. perfect opportunity to eric lindros someone i think
