Based on the following from Daryl Jones, the answer is no:

“It’s hard to gauge the probability of this deal closing. One thing that everyone has to be realistic about is there has been a great deal of financial turmoil in the world over the last 45 days, which is going to make it harder for us or any group to close this transaction though we do remain optimistic and feel good about our chances.”

In other words, we're relying on banks (mostly in Europe) for our financing and right now, things aren't exactly great across the pond.

This situation has to be resolved at some point, no?

I guess we'll have to wait for another crazy billionaire that thinks he can make money off of the Yotes. Bettman's gotta be kicking himself at this point.

Another weird thing I read in The Globe and Mail is that the current agreement between Ice Edge and Glendale requires a name change of the club.

I say just move the team back to Winnipeg. I mean, if you have to have the city cover your losses, you're in bad shape there anyway. I think Winnipeg will support the team and maybe make it profitable.

Yes, this is true, although it's going to be difficult to come up with a marquee that can fit the 'Arizona Coyotes of Glendale that are running back to Saskatoon for a few games before ending up in Winnipeg".

Ha! The new logo should be a map of North America

at this point does the nhl care anymore about Ice Edge?

Glendale has agreed to fund losses up to $25 mill

So the nhl can hold on to the team for another year, hope the team continues its strong play, hope they build on the playoff excitement and sell more tickets next year, hope this makes the team more saleable to some random billionaire out there who has no trouble with financing, and hope Glendale doesnt get sued by the Goldwater Institute

You're on the right track with all the hoping. I can't really fault the NHL for wanting to see what will happen after another season. Imo, this was/is a great year for hockey all across the globe. Sure, the ratings in the states aren't blowing other sports out of the water, but the numbers increase is a ball that should be kept rolling however they can.

I think 'The Gerbil' may care, if we can believe that Reinsdorf has indeed pulled out...

Reinsdorf group ends Coyotes pursuit, Ice Edge remains

I honestly think now that the city will fund losses, the nhl will continue to own the Phoenix franchise and wait things out. For them, its better than sell to a group that wants to play a handful of games in saskatoon

The NHL has used Ice Edge quite nicely to get that 25 mill guarantee
