Does Gruden get the same benefit of the doubt that Gibbs got in his first go 'round?

The other day a friend and I were talking about the team when he asked me...."what if Gruden turns out to be another Gibbs?" I, of course responded positively, but almost immediately remembered that Gibbs had a rough start. We immediately went into the pros and cons of another bad start with Snyder and a quick reacting fan base. So here are my questions to you guys:

1. What number follows 0-( ) before fans turn on Gruden?

2. Will Snyder be as patient with Gruden as JKC was with Gibbs?

As usual your input is appreciated........Thanks!!!

Different style of offenses and Gibbs didn't have the talent 1st year like Gruden does on offense

Gibbs at neither point had a QB we had dropped four draft picks on, two first round pass rushers and the WR group that we have assembled. Neither Snyder or the fan base will be kind if this team has another poor season. Contention for the Division would be ok. Anything less and it will be like a feeding frenzy on shark week.

No, Gruden doesn't get the latitude that Gibbs got. Its just a different time and definitely a different owner. IF we start 0-3, I expect to start hearing the naysayers begin. If he is 0-6, all hell will break lose.

he is a young guy and he could go either way but 3 years is fair unless he really really shows he is inept

Oh he will get two to three years. BUt if the Skins finish 6-10 as you predict... or worse... Gruden, Allen and RG3 will get shredded in the media and by the fan base.

it depends on what Rg3 does shark . if he plays well and other areas of the team fail Rg3 will get a pass

most of the fan base overwhelmingly supports Rg3

and if anyone expects , and i mean expects a rookie HC will come in here and set the town on fire then their expectations a seriously screwed

now it would be nice to see him come in and we be winners but i dont expect it

Yea ok. If a rookie coach from college can come in with a second round QB and win the division, a rookie HC with years of experience in the NFL wont get a pass.

As for the support of RG3, we both know that fans support winners. If this team finishes 6-10 or worse.... we will see how much support he has. And more to the point, how well he handles the situation if that should happen.

come on shark is that what "typically " happens ? the vast majority of rookie HC's take some time to build winners . jimmy johnson went like 1-15 in year one and he won superbowls

and again it depends on how he plays . if he plays well then fans wont pin it on him . if he doesnt then that will be a different story

The vast majority of rookie HCs dont have Superman at QB, two #1 WRs a TE considered a possible pro bowl talent, and a pro bowl RB. Most rookie HCs come in with the expectation that will need to BUILD a team. Gruden is being handed a team that won its division two years ago, just had a serious talent upgrade on offense, and the worst things he has to worry about are can his middle of the pack defense improve, and can special teams improve. Some how I dont think Dan is expecting a 4-12 season out of all this.

And if he has an Average season and the team loses.... you dont think the question of IF he was worth the deal will come up?? Like as not, until he wins a super bowl, he will always face the question of was he worth it.

If we finish 6-10, the fans and the media will begin to shred everyone, including RG3. This is a critical year for him. If he lays another egg this year, making the same mistakes as last year, you will hear the term "bust" being applied with regular frequency.

Well if rg3 sucks this year that would mean'we'would be in the'best qb in next year draft radar . But you have to give gruden 3 years. If gruden fells and sucks. You would think allen would be on the hot seat. So if gruden gets fired so should allen peroid. First year head coaches get a pass another thing I feel haslett is the'only coach on the hot seat this year but the bar is set so low already he has improve right? can'are def get any worse

We are going to win the division so this shouldn't even matter. I cant believe you guys are predicting a 6-10 season. We have the most talent in the division by far. How can you guys not predict a top 10 offense for us this year? That should at least translate into 8 wins.

It should be us and Philly. Philly has Carolina and Gb. We have TB and Minn. That is plus 2 right there. NYG get Atl and Det. Dal gets NO and CHI.

How many games did Special Teams lose last year?

Team wasn't as bad as it's record and roster is improved. Guys stay healthy and Iggles decline they could take the Division.

Hail to the Redskins!!

shark , gruden got handed the reigns of a 3-13 cellar dweller and a team that has finished last 5 out of 6 years if anything 10-6 was a fluke at this point

you are what your record says you are and right now for the 1/2 decade , one the field where it counts , we are a perennial also ran until it is proven otherwise on the field your hatred of RG3 notwithstanding

So you are telling me you think the owner, press and fanbase will just shrug and say oh well if this team finishes 6-10?? Yea right. You know Im right even if it weakens your position. If this team isnt a serious contender for the Division the entire team will get shredded, your hatred for the Defensive Coordinator not withstanding.

This thread wasn't intended to create friction between anyone, or for that matter turn into a debate barely related to the topic. One person wrote 0-1 as the turning point while some others indicated a losing season. Let's not get away from the point which is........1.At what point do we get an all out negative fan and media reaction to an 0 and something start. 2. The patience of one Daniel Snyder to that horrible start.
