I generally try to stay away from websites i dont believe in the mission of. ESPN is all about ratings and if they could they would keep beating the drum for the same 2 teams forever if it meant cashing in big. Hacks, all of em

What is it?

A proprietary algorithm that is constantly tweeked to fit their narrative.

It gets better as the year progresses, but the algorithm used at the beginning of the year and the algorithm used at the end of the year are completely different.

The FPI has some puzzling rankings, but I think the FPI does a good job calculating SoR, SoS and their game control metric.

I'd have to call BS on that looking at the current rankings they present

It currently claims Clemson has a better remaining SOS than Ohio State

Clemson plays Wake Forest and South Carolina

We play Rutger, Penn State and Michigan. I understand Rutger may bring it down a bit but Penn State and Michigan are both significantly better than Wake and South Carolina.

A shitty power ranking system that ESPN swears by
Power rankings are all garbage. Shit should be settled on the field, not in a computer system or voted on by "experts"

I don't get it.

UGA opened up a 3 point favorites against Auburn, but FPI gives us like a 44% chance to win.

A network that creates it's own metric then is the only one that uses it it's not worth paying attention to. Just like with their own QBR rating.

People don't understand what they are reading when they look at the FPI. They aren't suppose to reflect the standings. They are a predictive model.

Based on?

Explain the complicated ESPN maths that has fucking Washington, Texas A&M and Iowa State as top 20 teams ahead of 2 undefeated teams......

To add onto this

Baylor beat Iowa State head to head......They project baylor to finish with 11 wins to Iowa States 7.....yet Iowa State is the "better team" going forward? There is no explainable good logic behind that.

Again, they aren’t meant to reflect the standings
