I expect them to throw a bunch of money at Greinke this off season.

Wait a minute... If Gonzalez got to the Dodgers does that mean Texas didn't take an opportunity to put in a claim on him? I thought he'd have to go all the way through the AL before an NL team could claim him.

Correct. Means no one in the AL placed a claim on him.

That's interesting. I'd have thought they would've taken a run at him. JD and company must have another plan in mind.

payroll obligations for next season are already at 188M.

Payrolls never guarantee winning and what they just did doesn't make much sense, but the Dodgers will be loaded with $$$ for years to come.

No way we took on that contract. Terrible news is now that the Red Sox will have a TON of cash lying around when Josh hits the market this year. In Fenway Josh would hit .500 and 100 HR's. I bet the Red Sox also makes a run at Grienke. I think LAD are pretty much done with spending now.

They might, but that's exactly the type of thing that got them in this mess in the first place. They just miraculously dumped a ton of salary and you have to think it would take a big contract to draw Josh to Boston. That wouldn't be very smart for them at all. What they need is cheap young talent. Not prospects necessarily, but Elvis Andrus types. IMO this actually strengthens our negotiations with Josh.

I'm just glad that LAD and all their free spending will be pretty much out of the Josh running. That will be huge.

I've already heard the talks picking up steam about the Red Sox making a big move for Elvis this offseason. Makes sense for them to try, but not sure they have anything that we want and they can give up. Young and cheap and fills a major hole, they should really want Elvis. I just don't think the east coast writers are going to give up that Elvis ghost any time soon. That might be a good thing this time next year if we decide to move him. You know The Skankees will want him to replace Jeter, and BOS of course will want to block that. Just hope either team has something to offer :)

I don't see Boston or NYY having anything we'd really want for Elvis. The exception maybe being Pineda who I'm not totally sold on yet. LAD were the team I was really worried about in the Hamilton sweepstakes. I just don't see him going to a big market east coast team.

I'm the same way but you never know. So both LA teams should be out of the Josh sweepstakes. OAK and SAN won't open the spending. Maybe SFO, but doubt that as well. I'm betting we are bidding against BOS, HOU (want to splash into the AL), ATL, and for some reason I think the run this year wets PIT's whistle and they try to open the checkbook this offseason on a big bat.
