Do we think that DK has a legit shot at becoming rookie of the year? Right now he is on pace for nearly 1,000 yards receiving and 8-10 TDs? I know they will probably give it Kyler Murray because he is the #1 overall pick along with him being a QB with average numbers.

I think Josh Jacobs has the best case so far.

From the one or two articles I've read it seems most sports writers/voters have it like this:

  1. Jacobs
  2. Minshew
  3. DK Metcalfe

Yeah so far it would be Jacobs... If DK plays like he has the past few weeks for the remainder of the year he'll give JJ a run for his money...

Right now it's really down to those two since Minshew isn't going to start anymore because Foles is coming back this week. Kyler Murray could be in the running too, but I don't think he's been really wowing the voters like Jacobs or DK have been.

It would be nice but right now I have to assume that Kyler Murray and Josh Jacobs would be ahead of him right now.

it is far more difficult to be productive as a rookie WR than it is a RB, or even a QB if you are starting.

what he is doing as a WR is far more impressive.

If DK plays like he has the last couple weeks he will run away with it lol

Here is my thought on DK Metcalf, He is only going to continue to get better and that is a good thing. He is looked at as the best or one of the best 2 Rookie WR in the NFL. His Stock has climbed each and every week. He was something like 20th in betting for ROTY when the season started and is now around 3rd or 4th. If he continues to play at this level and say ends the season with 1,000+ yards and 8+ TD he will be #1 or #2 and those numbers are right there for him to get. Had it been DK that caught the game winning TD last week he might be looked at as the front runner.

Murray and Jacobs are way ahead of receivers like McLaurin, Metcalf and Brown imo.

You guys should be excited about your rookie for sure. Looks like he will be a nice part of your offense for awhile. Gotta get that catch % up though. (61 guys have more receptions this year. TWO have a lower catch%)

WRs winning the ROY award happens so infrequently it’s to the point that they have to produce an insane amount to even be considered. DK, as much as he’s beloved in Seattle needs to put up better numbers to catch Jacobs. DK will have to average 100 yards per games from here on out and add 9-10 tds the rest of the way for him to compete with Jacobs with the numbers Jacobs is putting up.

I don’t see that happening

I suppose so, but he's not getting tons of looks on high percentage routes. Of those who have a higher ypc, only 2 (Diggs & Golladay) have more catches.

I think it's great news that DK is even being mentioned for the award, never mind winning it. He was far from a sure thing prospect with questions about health/durability & productivity in college. On top of that, he goes to a team that throws the ball maybe more infrequently than any other in the league. As it is, he should catch 50+ passes for around 900 yards with 9+ TDs. For as difficult as we all know it is for rookie WRs to make this kind of impact, this is a total homerun.

Wilson and Lockett hurt his case.

Wilson because he's playing at an MVP level so it's going to lead to questions of how good is DK really when Wilson is throwing you the ball.

And Lockett because he's clearly the leading WR on the team and people assume DK gets better looks because Lockett commands more attention.

If you're going to have a chance to win the award at WR you clearly need to be the #1 on your team and it helps if you're QB isn't leading the MVP race so the conversation can be had that you're helping the QB not the QB making you.

I don’t see that happening

I think some of that can contribute to the fact that WR position takes a bit longer to learn in the NFL right out of the gate... Much easier for RB's to come in and have success than receivers... Lower volume of WR's actually having success as a rookie makes it a bit tougher to win the award week in and week out...
