Good news for hockey fans who receive DirecTV, per Fox Sports Detroit’s Tim Bryant:

STATEMENT FROM FOX NETWORKS AND DIRECTV REGARDING THE STATUS OF PROGRAMMING NEGOTIATIONS
October 31, 2011

Fox Networks and DIRECTV have reached an agreement for DIRECTV to continue carrying all Fox Networks (including FX, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo WILD, SPEED, FUEL TV, FOX Soccer, FOX Soccer Plus and FOX Deportes), Fox’s regional sports networks, Fox Broadcasting (FOX), the FOX local stations, Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network. We both know the past ten days have been challenging, but we’re pleased that both sides could eventually come together to ensure our viewers continue to enjoy Fox programming.

just made my day :bounce:

This is the same shit they pulled with Dish Network last year. 11:59 and all is resolved. Now I won't lose the Coyote or Oregon Duck games for the rest of the year. Yes I am one of the few and proud Desert Dog fans. Rather have a small and rabid fanbase then no team at all. Sorry to all my Canadian friends, but that is how I feel.

you love inferior PQ, and inferior channel/programming selection ?

I prefer Comcast myself... not sure how it is where you guys are at but satellite TV goes out like crazy up here. Never had an issue with Comcast... All I need is NESN, NHLNetwork, Fox News, CNN, History Channel, HBO, Showtime and AMC.

Fox Sports AZ is the big thing here for hockey, college football, and baseball. Glad it was resolved, but I knew it would be. They also do basketball, but who gives a rip and baseball is over. Am glad that FX is still on since I love that show The League on Thursday nights. I know people that could easily fill all the rolls on that show so to me it is funny.

Just cut the chord people. There isn't anything on TV that you can't get online. I'm coming up on one year since I cancelled DirecTV, had been with them for 11 years. They were throwing EVERYTHING at me to get me to stay, but I had made up my mind. With my little one on the way I knew I wouldn't get to watch much TV, so we cancelled it. $120 per month saved. Got a good antenna and the picture is actually much better in HD. When it comes times to catch FSSW games I just fire up the computer. I took some of the money saved and got a really good FiOS package and netflix so I still get shows and movies. Have a few sites saved that stream sports packages and my computer has HDMI output so it is linked to my TV.

All said and done I save about $70 a month by cutting the chord and I actually have more programming now. Sucks not having a DVR, but there are ways around that if you want. I spend a lot more time working on my car, playing with my kid and the wife now as well.

Not sure where you get that from, but I stream from my desktop to my Samsung HDTV via HDMI and it looks just like it would if it were coming through a coax from the satellite.

not everybody can cut the cord because not everybody has viable broadband internet options for streaming video

True. But for everyone else, there are other options. I thought it would be impossible, but I'm loving the savings every month. I mean, I'm saving almost $1100 a year just from TV, and haven't missed any of the shows I used to watch.

At the end of the day, if you are outside of any committment to DirecTV, they will throw all kinds of discounts/promotions at you. I've been with them forever and they gave me the promotional "26 bucks a month off for 12 months" and a 10 dollar credit (to wipe out receiver fees)...on top of that I got showtime/starz free for 6 months (I get to watch Dexter). I didn't have to do anything. No more committment, etc. I just said I was going to leave, and they couldn't really do anything about it.

If you search around online, you can find the retention department as well. They are the ones who can make the good deal.

I'm close to doing what the guy above did. Once college football is over this season, I may drop my DirecTV for a while and see what happens. Probably suspend my account (that way I don't have to fight new crap and a contract if I change my mind down the road).

I cancelled satellite last January and get by just fine. Only thing I miss is hockey...
