DirecTV Might Drop Fox Cable Channels - 2011-10-21 03:15:52 | Broadcasting & Cable
this is fucking bullshit

this is fucking bullshit

Already contacted the Dish Network number FSD listed on the bottom scroll of last night's game.
Yes, it IS total bullshit.
Guy on the phone said that DirecTV got into some kind of spat with Rupert Murdoch or something.
So fuck DirecTV. There's no way in hell I can do without my Redwings. I can't imagine how many customers they are gonna lose over this. Serves them right, too.
This isn't Direct TVs fault. It's another typical attempt at a company (Fox this time) that owns cable companies and wants to get their hands on the NFL Package. It's a big reason why Direct TV offered the NFL Package this year for free, because they knew Fox was going to pull this once the contract was up and wanted to put a dent in Fox's plan to claim they are "losing" xxxxxxx revenue. Direct TV can say "we only make <small amount> per subscriber". I am a Direct TV customer, and have been for five years. I called and said I wanted it free, and they gave it to me.
It's the same fight they went through with Comcast and Vs.
If you want to make a difference in the battle, write to all the people who advertise on your local Fox affiliate and let them know angry you are at Fox. Fox can't afford to lose 20 million Direct TV subscribers. They charge for commercials based on who is able to see them. If their advertisers start dropping out because they won't be able to reach their audience, the battle is over.
I had a professor once point out that while they say "This show is brought to you by <advertiser>" in actuality You are brought to the advertiser by the show.
Although, I'd be okay with a world where Fox News doesn't come into my home at all.
i think both companies are at fault. fox wants a ridiculous price hike but fox said they were willing to let directv air their channels while they negotiated a new deal but directv pulled the plug

Are you saying that all you did was called and asked for the same free subscription that they offered to new customers and they went for it?
Yes, you can get free programming (or $X off your bill a month for Y # of months) if you call and ask for it but it depends on a lot of factors such as how long you've been a subscriber, how much you pay them per month, how often you call and ask for free stuff, which CSR or retentions rep you happen to get on the line and what kind of mood they're in (calling back and talking to a different one will most likely mean you'll get offered something different) and on and on...
As for this DTV/FOX dispute, I'm not really worried about it... They'll work it out eventually. I've been a DTV subscriber for 10+ years and have no plans on switching.
I find it kind of funny that the KeepMyNets.com website tells people to go to Dish Network instead... Didn't Dish go through the same dispute a few months back and cut off all the FOX networks from subscribers for a while (I assume they're back now)?![]()
Can someone list exactly which DIRECTV channels would be gone???
FX
FOX Soccer
FOX Soccer Plus
FOX Movie Channel
National Geographic Channel
FOX Deportes
FUEL TV
SPEED
