Steve Smith has earned the right to trash talk. People forget, that at the start if his career he was viewed as nothing more than a return man and not much else. He was told he was too short to play WR. HE PROVED THEM ALL WRONG. Smith knows how to get into the heads of defenders and uses it to his advantage. He also shows lots of respect to those who have earned it. Watch Carolina vs Tampa, he and Darrelle Revis both talked a lot of smack but they both accept it as part of the game. The smartest thing a CB defending Smith can do is let Smith talk and keep his own mouth shut. If you can stop Smith, you will earn his respect.

Good point about how some players use smack talk to gain an edge on an opponent. Reminded me that I've heard Tom Jackson say that that was his intent when he was jawing at opposing players. Another former Bronco great, Shanon Sharpe, was also very effective at getting inside an opponent's head by talking smack (e.g., the famous episode in which he did that to Derrek Thomas on MNF).

You don't earn the right to be batshit crazy. You just are or you aren't. The dude's nuts. He had to be crazy to make it at that position with his stature. I respect him but he's obviously a loose cannon.

LOL That's ^ batshit crazy! Are Wes Welker, Darren Sproles, and DeSean Jackson also nuts, because they are also about the same size as Smith? I think that unusual speed, quickness, hands and general athleticism, not craziness, are the prerequisites for undersized NFL players.
