The Diamondbacks are motivated to swing a trade for an ace-caliber pitcher, reports ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

Targets: David Price, Max Scherzer, Jeff Samardzija (barf), and maybe Chris Sale?

Pieces they could move: Skaggs, Bradley, Owings, Eaton, Delgado, Pollock, Davidson, etc.

Rays are willing dealers, and like prospects, they seem like the natural fit. Freidman will probably hose Towers, but if they really want an ace that seems the most likely.

Arizona should have thought about that before they dealt away Justin Upton. To get one of the guys you are talking about -- they'd have to come up with a monster deal.

3:30pm: The Diamondbacks may also be looking to the trade market for power bats, according to a recent series of tweets from Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Rosenthal reports that the D-Backs and A's recently discussed a trade that would send Yoenis Cespedes to Arizona in exchange for Tyler Skaggs, A.J. Pollock and others. Both sides have cooled on the idea and backed off the trade at this time, however, and the A's would only trade Cespedes for a "monster" return, according to Rosenthal. Still, as he points out, it serves as an example that the Diamondbacks will be aggressive and creative in their search for a power bat in the outfield.

They did fine in the Upton trade. Prado and Delgado are both solid... and Ahmed, Drury and Spurill are all nice prospects. Upton is way too inconsistent, strikes out a ton, and he had a bad attitude in AZ.

Adding Cespedes and Price would be pretty sweet. I wouldn't mind Trumbo either.

I wan't too keep Skaggs but I would rather keep Bradley if it comes down to it. Not sure I wan't Cespedes. Streaky streaky hitter.

Question, what are these two guys like? Are they high end prospects? I have to plead complete ignorance on this one. There were some rumblings, whether real or fabricated by the media, that the Mets could potentially look into a Cespedes deal so I'm curious what trade value for him would be.

If my recollection is correct, they are highly regarded in many circles. Could probably find them in the top 100 prospects from say, MLB.com.

This trade is years away to declare a winner give it 2 more years........ Justin could start to figure it out, Prado could be inconsistant or vice versa, to be honest I wanted Towers and Gibby gone before Upton, but I hated the Upton bashers we had in az way to hard for him to develop.......

Eaton better be a consistant lead off guy........... Pollock needs to go way to many back up in fielders.

Skaggs projects to be a top of the rotation pitcher.

Pollock is a solid, young outfielder. Lots of speed, not a lot of power.

I don't want to lose Bradley or Skaggs, but, if one of them has to go, I'd rather it be Skaggs.

I don't want Cespedes.

Am I wrong or has Skaggs struggled in the both the minors and his stint in the majors? I could be wrong. I thought I read something about him struggling last year after being very good a year or two ago.

Yes, he struggled last season (more in the majors than in the minors). He dominated in the minors a couple of seasons ago.

I wasn't positive -- that is why I asked. I thought I read he had close to a 5.00 ERA in the minors last year and his strikeouts dropped off. Was there any word on why that happened? Was he having arm troubles or just one of those seasons?

Think what we could of waited to trade Justin then when the Braves saw BJ struggling they might think getting Justin would take pressure off him, also I wanted to see what Chris Johnson do.......

Because our pitching coaches suck. There!
