It's a good move. If he performs in preseason/camp it's a solid experienced vet who probably hasn't fully reached his potential. If nothing else it's insurance and can buy time for guys like Matteau/Boucher.

And it's not like he's the only guy. Look at guys like Raymond, Morrow, etc, etc. I know Morrow is getting old, but I would NEvER have thought he would have had this hard of a time finding a job. Cap went down. Teams want cheap young players. We'll see. If worse comes to worse and he sucks then they just don't sign him. Zero commitment and zero risk. Not to mention he can pressure some of the other guys. Loki best player on the ice tonight for NJ, Teds looking good. These guys know they have to fight for their lives, now they'll be pushed even more.

Let's be real, if he does make the team, we may not have a true number 1 line in theory but we are pretty loaded top to bottom. Not a weakness amongst our forwards. And if Zajac or Henrique step it up and become a top line center, a Henrique-Ryder combo could be dangerous.
