It's gonna be a couple of years before that's definitive, though. Horak is still in the AHL and I think Broissoit is in the ECHL (last I looked)

Smid is terrible, they could have gotten rid of him for nothing and won that trade - remember the stats that were put up a few days ago and how each Flames d-man got worse when they played with Smid?

True, but there's still a couple of key factors you have to consider:

1. Smid is a player currently toiling in in the NHL - Whether that's warranted or not is certainly up for debate, but he's there nonetheless. You can't say the same for the players Edmonton received in the trade and who knows if they will ever be NHL regulars.

2. The stats we saw the other day are a fairly small sample size and things can easily be skewed. I'd like to see how these stats look at the end of the season with 30+ more games of data to draw from.

I think I read somewhere that the Oilers record without Smid is actually better than their record with him in the lineup. Of course, it would be difficult for their record to have been worse (haha). At any rate, Flames were hit pretty hard with the injury bug to the defense corps and they picked up Smid for a bag of magic beans. I think I said at the time it was a meh trade and that's exactly what it has turned out to be.

Even if you look at his entire career his SV% is only .910. League average for that time has been .909.

I really don't understand what the Oilers are doing. They dump Dubnyk & acquire Scrivens. Neither of these guys are going to solve their problems. So they have two goalies who are UFA's at the end of the year. Big Whoop. Unless they plan on signing Ryan Miller in the offseason it's meaningless. Of course the chances of that happening are zero. There's no way in hell his wife is moving to Edmonton.

I don't see any way either team would make that trade - first of all, Columbus doesn't really need Cam Ward - both are starting goalies so it really wouldn't work - Also, if anything, it should be Gaborik and a 1st for Cam Ward because Gaborik's coming off an injury and he's going to be a free agent
