Depends on a lot more than that. Simply having the best coaching staff is no guarantee. He may make it or he may not. Anyone claiming otherwise is either uninformed or lying.

Coaching and scheme will matter for Watson just like it did for RG3. That will determine if he succeeds or not.

you said coaches and coordinators don't matter. RGe succeeded in his rookie year b/c of that reason. We didn't have a top oline or top offensive weapons. It was coaching and scheme.
RG3's success in year 1 was a gimmick. Surely you know that now. RG3 also had a good running game in Morris to take pressure off.

Don't take my position as saying that Watson will be a bust ini the NFL in total. Just for that team that takes him #1 and expects him to start and succeed with shitty parts around him. Now if he goes later in rd 1 to a team looking to develop their future franchise qb, that could work.

Right. I just said that.

Here is what you stated:

With the right o coordinator Watson will succeed in the NFL.

Granted you said he would not succeed in CLE but what guarantee is there in SF or CHI or wherever regardless of the coach?

Right his success was from a read option offense which Morris benefited from too. It depends on who are his coaches. If he gets a Shanny or Mcdaniels I would say yes. If he get a coach like Gruden I would say no.

Yes coaching and scheme would matter to Watson success. How many times do I have to say that. IF SF get shanny or Mcdamiels that would be huge for Watson.

I think that the Carr brothers are an interesting study in this area. David was drafted # 1 overall by the Texans & his line basically killed him & likely screwed up his development. Years later Derek plays behind a great line with lots of other talent and thrives. I have to think that the two are relatively similar in talent. You just never know how a QB will develop.

You dont. RG3 is an interesting study. He has all the tools. Except a brain. He came into the league thinking he new it all, was a finished product and wouldn't take coaching. Just the fact that he still can't, to this day, protect himself is evidence of that. He either refuses to or doesn't still know how. It makes no difference. RG3's flaw is his ego. Hell, after 5 years in then league, he still can't execute a 5 step drop with any consistency or timing. What does that tell you?

Walterfootball.com just put a 3rd round grade on him. I still thinks he goes first round.

Coaching matters but so does an O line, running game & defense. More importantly how a QB improves on his own makes a difference & that falls on the player & you never know how any player will evolve in this respect (regardless of his college career, that fact that he is smart, a good guy, etc).

All true. Watson is going to need a lot from the organization that drafts him for him to succeed. But with the right coaches and coordinators I just think he can succeed.

day 3? what? At worst he is the 3rd qb taken in the draft. He is going first round.

Dean, I'm with you on this one. Watson can succeed in Cleveland, there were several games this year where
divisional foes just fought harder than cleveland and won. Watson like any rookie, will have to make some serious changes in footwork and learning when to just go out of bounds or slide. Most credible sites have Watson going in the 1st. It is possible, cleveland gets Garrett and Watson or goes with another option. Either way, too many teams have QB issues for him to be passed upon.
LOL, at Watson being compared to RG3. RG3 was better. injuries and stupidity ruined robert's career. Robert basically came to the redskins when they were a dump, much like cleveland. He did it ALL with no help.
Watson is NOT capable of that as a rookie.

There is no way, Kiezer or Trubisky throw over 50 times against Alabama and win like Watson did.

He probably will. But not because he is a first round talent so much as there are 4-8 teams in need of QBs at the moment. So one of those teams will likely say, lets not risk that one of the other QB needy teams will let him slide to the 3rd round. Lets take him in the 1st and roll with it.
