While we wait for more clues from Northeast, let me recount one of my more vivid memories as a young Phillies fan. 1981 Veterans Stadium Phillies Vs Astros Nolan Ryan vs Steve Carlton. It was a big crowd because of those two pitchers and also because Pete Rose was getting close to breaking an all time hits record. It wasn't quite as big as Cobb's record, it was Stan Musial's all time National League hits record. I forget if he was one hit away or two, but it was conceivable that he could do it that night.
Anyway, Rose leads off the bottom of the first with a single and I think that tied the record (or put him within one, I forget which) and the crowd is pumped up because now we have a good chance of seeing history.
Then, long story short, Ryan proceeds to strike him out the next three times up. Probably one of the only times Rose ever struck out 3 times in the same game.
And then the next day the players union went on strike and there was no major league baseball for like 2 and a half months.
Hopefully we won't have to wait that long for another clue about this pitcher.

Very interesting, Cedrique. Rose broke Cobb's record on Sept. 8, 1985 off Eric Show. Show was found dead in his room at a drug and alcohol rehab center in 1994. I guess he never got over it. I should have made that a trivia question.

Man I don't have any cool stories like that. Let's all discuss where we were when the the Phils won the '08 World Series. I was in my mom's room, and (she is a group fitness instructor and personal trainer) there was a big athletic ball and during the whole Eric Hinske at-bat I was just bouncing that thing off the ground like crazy because I was so excited. I think that annoyed my mom. And then when Lidge struck Hinske out I was literally just jumping up and down and screaming like a mad man for like 90 seconds. Happiest day of my life. I start following the Phillies in '06, and as a kid I just assumed that all Phillies years would be like that. Boy was I wrong.

And then I remember during the parade I was up in North Wilmington eating at a Moe's and all the workers were basically half-assing their jobs because they were watching the speeches. The burrito was bad, but also a great, great fucking memory. Also, the burrito may have been bad because it was from Moe's

This one is lacking some clues. Most people, myself included don't have enough of an idea of how many batters a pitcher walks in a career to make an educated guess.

But what the hell, I'll throw out a couple more--
Blyleven
Schilling
Chris Short
Not them!

Hello gents. I fell asleep and was dreaming that I was sleeping on a bench in a homeless section. Then it started to rain and I went looking for my car. It was a 1972 Chevy convertible but I could not find it. Some how my wife found me wandering around and gave me a ride home. But I don't think I will ever find the 72 Chevy convertible.
When I woke up I remembered that I needed to check my Sportshoopla page to see if anybody figured out my
question. I am glad that you have been able to amuse yourself with chatter.
Here is a big clue: he had a brother that pitched in MLB as well. (By the way my convertible was dark blue just in
case you see it!)

not him. Here is another clue; Years ago there was a tv detective with the same last name.
Wait! The detectives name was not exactly the same, just sounded like it. So I will give another clue. he won
over 300 games in his long career.

What the fuck. I looked it up. All this time I thought Mike Maddux was Greg's dad, not his brother. My whole life has been one big shitty lie!

  • With players with a minimum of 5000 PA, he has the 64th worst career wRC+ of 82
  • Two times he was on base when a walk-off hit ended the World Series, one time scoring the run
  • 2001 NLCS MVP
  • From June 11 to August 3, 2011, Counsell tied the all-time record for consecutive at-bats without a base hit for a position player, going hitless over a streak of 45 at-bats as a bench player and spot starter
  • Had arguably his "best" season in 2009, when he hit .285/.357/.408 in 459 PA
  • Only stuck around so long because he was a great defensive player
