scored a lot of runs on home runs by sheffield, arod, cano, giambi, oneill, etc
Is this supposed to be a knock on Jeter or something? I don't understand your point. Good hitters score runs. Leadoff hitters are supposed to get on base and score runs. Is Rickey Henderson somehow less of a hitter/player because he had other guys driving him in?

Tino, Bernie, Soriano, Abreu, whatever superstar they could trade for to surround him with talent, and dont forget about Justice and a list of other guys.

Tino's one of the most overrated players of all-time.

So now you are comparing Henderson to Jeter?

Way to overrate him

The easiest way to make Jeter look really bad? Have ImSmartherThanYou debate in his behalf.

Give Jeter a break. All the good power hitters strike out a lot.

Read much?

The only comparison was that they were both leadoff hitters.

Leadoff hitters are supposed to score runs. If Jeter had better On Base skills, he would probably be the all time leader in RS.....

BTW, I am a Red Sox fan and a Jeter basher - but I don't blame him for being miss-used - you gotta blame Torre for batting him lead-off. Jeter did the best he could with his limited On Base capablilties and he did end up scoring a ton of bases....

Derek Jeter spent 65% of his career as the #2 hitter in the Yankees lineup. Why are we calling him a "Leadoff hitter"?

Jeter batted leadoff for Torre. Did you guys even follow baseball? Jeter started hitting leadoff with Girardi. Jeter's rookie year, he hit 9th in the lineup with Torre, after that, he hit second. When Soriano was there, Soriano hit lead off Jeter hit 2nd.

Christ all mighty.

Isn't this the whole goddamn point???? He doesn't get on base as much because he strikes out a lot!

Fuck.

And you want to accuse others of not being able to read???

there was actually nothing wrong with Jeter getting on base with his highest strikeout seasons. His 4 highest strikeout totals, 3 of those seasons he led the league in PAs, and his OBP was, .370 .384 .438 .389. Nothing wrong with that at all.

I've been waiting one day where someone plunks Jeter in the neck. He gives the ump the hand gesture and then nods to the pitcher like "its OK, you can pitch to me now"

How does a glorified singles hitter strikeout as much as Rob Deer?

That, I did not know... I really thought he was used more in the leadoff spot.

I think I was thinking about the time Johnny Damon played in NY and Jeter was hitting ahead of him.

Come on, Ox. You know you love it when Jeter strikes out and gives the ump that look with a perfect mixture of "that almost hit me" and "don't you know who I am?"
