not sure they really have a claim here. they was $4.9M for the remaining balance of his contract after he died and $5M for punitive damages?

strange lawsuit

Report: Boogaard's family sues NHLPA for $9.8 million

I guess if they can prove that the NHLPA didn't file the required paperwork on their behalf by the deadline, then they may have a case.

/And if can stop doctors etc. from handing out pain killers like candy, that also would be beneficial.

Gosh I hate this stuff. I hate, hate, hate it. Do I agree that MDs need to be responsible? Yes. But you know what else? The system is so incredibly crappy that they're hamstrung into giving people drugs. The second you say no people move on to the next guy and the next and the next. Unfortunately pain isn't something you can diagnostically diagnose. People fake pain so freaking much...I just hate that there's zero responsibility these days. You're an addict? That's your fault. Stop pandering the fault on someone else. Stop blaming an MD for prescribing you something when you then went to another doctor to get another prescription. Stop blaming society, stop blaming issues in life. Get help. And families stop desecrating the name of the person you lost by suing someone else. Gosh I hate the sue-happy nature of this world. It's pathetic.

Well Pix I have this to say.

When you or I go to the Doctor with some sort of illness or ailment what do they do?

They give you a 1 minute look over and break out the script pad..write up a script for something that is ailing you and send you on your way. That may be fine for you and I to some extent but a pro with extreme pain and the obvious will occur higher end drugs.

My beef with the medical community is one week if you have a asthma type condition they will prescribe Flovant the next time you go for the same symptoms they will prescribe something else. It is all in what drug company is in thier favor for the week. Sick if you ask me.

I must say this is exactly how I feel, yet I doubt I could have said it in such a clear way. I know from having chronic knee and back problems that the very first things doctors do is ask me what painkillers I want. I will admit that I do take time released painkillers when I need then, I am however am lucky because I do not rely on them all the time. Working when you're hurting really really sucks as a contractor, I can't even imagine what is like for a hockey player. It's really a 2 part problem, but I feel the medical field as a whole needs to be more cautious dishing out meds and make sure that they are fully informing their patients of the potential risks they will face if they choose to use certain medications.

The headline on this thread sure got me to look.

I knew the lawsuits in this country were out of control, but we've got people filing them from beyond the grave now. Where does it end?
