It’s stats like this that scare me…

Either the Ducks offense wasn’t complicated or Bo Nix doesn’t do a lot to go through progressions. Not inspiring.

^ That is actually a stat Payton liked. He wants his QB's to take their first read as that is what the play is designed to do. Knocking a QB for doing exactly what they are supposed to do (i.e. hit first read if open) is ridiculous.

Cool story to share.

Bo Nix family basically (and maybe legally) took in Oregon WR Tez Johnson as their own son. Tez is a talented WR who broke out late last year.

Looks like we’ve got our Joe Burrow/Jamar Chase situation only it’s with our new QB and his Center.

I agree. But I just hope it is the fact that Payton LOVES him and not a panic move because we feel our hand was forced.

We had our pick of the litter on defense and passed for the 6th QB. That is going to be on my mind for a while.
The mistake here is assuming NFL guys know how to evaluate QBs - history - says they don't. The 6th QB taken in the 1983
1st round was Dan Marino - who got to the Super Bowl in his 1st year.

should have hired the USFL scouting dept who made Marino their #1 overall pick in 83

Lamar was also the 6th QB taken.

He completed an extremely high percentage of those passes. It's pretty hard to fault success.

Nothing we've tried post-Manning has worked. The closest we came was when Gary Kubiak coaxed an 8-6 record and 3,400 yards out of Trevor Siemian in 2016. Vance Joseph could not continue to develop or build on that and everything that has happened since has been a disaster.

So drafting a QB who isn't coming off of one flashy year, has the IQ, etc really makes sense. It may not work. But neither has anything else, so why be any harder on the organization for this attempt to return to relevancy. You have to keep trying until you hit. I really like their chances with Nix.

I also just hope they go all in and anoint him the starter. Expectations are not mile high right now. The most exciting thing in Broncos country is a MEH restyling of their uniforms (aside from the throwback, which should have been the primary since they wanted to change anyway). The best thing for a rookie QB is to come into a situation where the team is expected to win 6 or 7 games and if you fall short of that, oh well. Get the reps that you can build on next year when the expectations are going to be a little higher.

I think Bo Nix is a very mediocre prospect, but this is just not very good reasoning. Identifying the 1st and correct read is most always the most efficient decision. And Oregon, like most upper echelon CFB programs, are gonna curbstomp vastly inferior opponents on a weekly basis... until they meet a bigger fish like say Georgia or something.

I straight up don't like this application of the state. Especially for CFB QB's.

"I was actively involved in pretending we were moving forward" - Sean Payton on moving up in the draft

When Peyton Manning came out a few days before the draft proclaiming that the Broncos really like JJ McCarthy, you knew we weren't taking him ..

If you haven't watched it already, I highly recommend the Payton / Paton press conference

How does Who Knows fit with our weapons on O. Only Mims and he still needs to get better as well. RB room needs some juice

Good stuff.

Definitely don't want to get cute on draft day at the QB position.

Another diversion the Broncos made was assigning Zach Wilson the number 10 jersey a few days before the draft ...
