I think this pick was the no brainer here. Penix goign to ATL was shocking to me.
I would have loved to move down and get him but at the same time a good sign Payton REALLY likes him. If you really love a QB you don't risk moving down especially after seeing what happened with Penix.

None of the defensive players high in the draft moved the needle for me so can't blame them for not taking a D player. This draft is offensive

While I understand he was 6th taken but Denver really had him at 3rd best, so we got the 3rd best QB in the draft at pick 12 so I‘d say that’s pretty good

Considering how quick we got the pick in, I doubt it was a panic move. I’m guessing Nix is THE guy they wanted.

Love the pick. You've gotta take the QB you think best delivers a chance to lead your team in your system. It doesn't matter how good your position players are or how good your defense is. No QB, no chance. This is the NFL in 2024.

Payton just did a great interview with McAfee and he ripped off every stat and piece of info possible about Nix, so it sounds like he was convinced early about Nix. Even talked about maybe a small move down but the Atlanta pick convinced them to take Nix and not risk it for an extra 3rd. Also said he knew who Minnesota wanted.

I have the feeling if both Nix and McCarthy were there, Payton would have taken Nix .... Peyton Manning doesn't come out 48 hrs before the draft and say "The Broncos really like McCarthy" if they really like him ..

I'm not surprised Penix went Top 10, but that it was Atlanta is unexpected ... I think Penix is a better pro than at least 2 of the QBs taken before him, maybe all of 'em ..

If we keep 3 QBs, I think DiNucci sticks ..... Stidham is not hanging around as a third string QB at 5 million a per year
