They end the race on a wreck. Keselowski wins it!
Well shit, I actually had a decent finish between Chase and McMurray.
Well, if you watch racing for the wrecks then you enjoyed this garbage. If you like racing this was, as Pitman said, a shitshow. Just freaking terrible.
And the powers that be at NASCAR think that restrictor plates make it safer
Kinda hard to blame NASCAR for this one. It's really on the fans. They bitched to high heaven about the tandem drafting so they went back to this setup entirely because of the backlash. The large packs will always result in tons of wrecks but its what people claim they wanted, not the spread out stuff you saw with tandem drafts. At least with tandem drafting, there was strategy involved of who to pair up with and where to go even if it did look a bit silly for two cars to push each other for laps and laps.
The plates do make it safer though. The cars are just too unstable to run at a track that size unrestricted with the engine package. You could add tons of drag to the aero side of things to slow them down that way but the end results are gonna be the same; you're going to bunch them up. A quarter inch plate over the manifold is a hell of a lot cheaper than redesigning bodies too.

Restrictor plate = bunched up, no engine response, eliminates the skill of the driver. Let off the throttle and it won't slow down, punch it and it does nothing for 1/2 a lap. It sucks. It's like watching a horse race where the horses are being choked. They did it for "safety" and to "save money" - mya$$! How many millions were wrecked? It's all about sucking in fans for the money.
You know what? Give them smaller engines that breathe normally. Make it about the drivers, not the cars.
