What a couple of children you two are in here. Stating disdain somehow soothes you.

This def is bad, very bad. However they seem to come up with the big play when the need too. We gave up almost 500yrds of offense. Hou does have some weapons and prob the most talented 2-11 team in the NFL. We are giving up way to many yards on the ground, the pass rush has not been there, and are DB seem to be out of place a lot. Arrington is terrible on the outside, so lets hope Dennard is back next week. Talib still looks a little slow to me, but he played good. Hightower continues to get beat, and beat bad in the passing game. If we contain Gordon next week we should win this game. Thank god are offense showed up as are def went down.

Not much you can do. With all the injuries I expected the D to be pretty bad. If they can just be average the rest of the year I'd be happy. If we still had Mayo, Wilfork, and Kelly I'd have a lot more confidence in us making a deep playoff run and a chance at the SB. Still could happen, but the offense will need to be great to make up for the D.

Don't look now but our defense is best in the league in pass completion percentage. That is even with the injuries the guys have been fighting.

Dudes! We're 9-3! Dennard comes back, Gregory comes back and everybody starts playing in position?

A good offense, a good pass defense and with a little luck, an improving run defense......

If you'd like to take your chances with another team, just go, but first tell us who your pick is.....

I agree with OP the defense looks like shit. This team will not get to the SB be it from injuries, to many inexperienced guys on the field at once. bad defense, fumbles. dropped passes or errant throws. The Pats will win a weak division but IMO this team might get knocked out in its first playoff game.

And all the other playoff teams might get knocked out in the first game.....

I don't see how anyone can think McCourty is a top Safety. IMO...He's a one-dimensional player with problems tracking and adjusting to a runner in front of him and tackling him, which I happen to think is important to good safety play. He's an upgrade when you consider they were getting torched over the top a couple of years ago but when you consider he was taken 27th overall to play corner he should be able to play the pass. The fact is he failed and had to be moved to Safety so now they have a cover guy that doesn't really have good run stopping skills. If you take a free safety in the top 27 he needs to be good at both otherwise he's not worth it IMO. As far as his coverage skills go...he's better at coming over to help than he is in man to man but that's also why he isn't a cornerback any more.

A lot of national writers think he's a pro bowler this year.

One caution about evaluating secondary players by the eyeball test: you don't know what their assignments were. If Logan Ryan or Jamie Collins lets a guy go that they should have run with, you'll sometimes see a completely blown coverage with McCourty or Harmon being the nearest guy, which looks really bad for the safety, but the player who made the mistake could be halfway across the field and it could even be to the safety's credit that they got anywhere near him.

That doesn't mean McCourty doesn't make mistakes, obviously, but it does mean the naive eyeball test - "He's the closest guy and that coverage was blown" is pretty much useless for evaluating secondary players.

Ever watch McCourty run back a kickoff? Ever see him run anything more than in a straight line? He doesn't because he has stiff hips, which means he doesn't change direction fast, which means he'll have problems in the open field tracking and tackling...which he does.

IMO he's not a whole lot better than his twin brother who was taken in the 6th round...taking him 27th overall is just another example of Belichick reaching IMO.

If you want to see McCourty's tracking skill on display watch the opening kickoff against the Texans and the 2nd TD by Tate.... He whiffed on the returner around the 30 yard line allowing him to pick up another 15 yards....virtually whiffed on Tate letting him run right through him for the TD.
