Just venting....

So after my Bucs have the go ahead field goal scored on them, my phone rings. It is a friend from church and I try to hand the phone to my wife but she is doing one of my girl's hair. She asks me to answer it and I do. The first thing the married woman friend says is "How 'bout them Bucs?". Without answering, I hang the phone up and drop the phone on the bed.

Now my family is angry and embarrased by me. I would never do that to a sports fan. They obviously are not real football fans.

If they did this an hour or two afterwards, that would have been different.

Had a very interesting conversation with the wife. Told her that I was unrepentant and would apologize. Told her that real fans don't do that to friends. Told her I need at least an hour to cool off and that I wouldn't be answering the phone. She just didn't understand.

Talked with my kids and told them that I didn't like her any less. My youngest (9) thought I should apologize but I told her I wouldn't.

Pretty tense for a while. To make things better amongst the women folk, I decided to go to church that night. I thought about staying home to cool off. I told them I would be fine but if something was said that I would just remain silent.

The "offending" lady came over to me and apologized. She told her husband what she did and he was like WHAT? YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE THAT. I told her no hard feelings and I just need time to cool off after a hearbreaking loss.

Feels good be in the right, again.

See this is where Husbands are good to help set their wives straight when it comes to men and sports. My wife doesn't understand why the Broncos losing affects me so much and thinks I overreact. At least this woman was willing to listen to her husband and realize that was a stupid thing to do.

Last year I was living in Seattle when the Broncos lost in the playoffs and of course I was surrounded by Seahawk fans at work and they all could not wait to come from the break room where they were watching the Broncos lose to come tell me about it. I ended up going into the back room and just trying to stay away so I wouldn't explode on anybody. I had the hardest time the next day not rubbing it in their face when the Seahawks lost in the same way. Decided to be the bigger man though and hold my tongue.

That's too bad. I don't think my wife understands why the Broncos losing affects me so much, but she respects that it does. She was working when we lost to the Ravens last year, and when she got home she didn't even mention the game. I love that woman.

Funny thread. I try to stay mindful of what I'm quite sure is the fact that what I or anyone else not actually playing, coaching, or officiating the game says or does has absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of the game. Obvious as that seems, it can be surprisingly difficult to appreciate sometimes.

honestly i think SG handled as well as anyone. Ive hung up on people for less. His team let a 10-0 lead slip away in the 4th of a tight game and the first thing out her mouth was that?! she was out of line.

Been a Cardinal season ticket holder for years. I have lived through decades of rejection and defeat in addition to moronic fans throwing losses in my face. I know how you feel. It's kind of like the idiot who tells you who won the game when they know you recorded it and wanted to watch it later. A swift punch in the face next time you see them seems to make me feel better. Maybe you should give it a shot.
