The Devils traded center David Steckel to Toronto for a fourth-round draft choice today.

In 18 games with the Devils last season, the 25-year-old Wisconsin native had one goal. Steckel was traded to the Devils from the Capitals this past February.

“What has transpired in training camp with young players like Adam Henrique, we want to give the proper (ice) time to them,” Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said. “Brad Mills also had an excellent camp.

“We’re going to look into what we can do with Petr Sykora. He could be a center and Henrique could be a center.”

I don't want to seem Toronto-centric, but getting traded to the Leafs is the biggest impact David Steckel has ever had on the NHL.

Meh, that's okay. I have Philly fans on here whose posts I really enjoy and respect - awaz, 4706, vadered, and some other I'm sure I can't remember. But you'd understand if you grew up a Caps' fan and had to listen to some of the crap I did as a kid/young man at my home arena. I'm not inventing this out of nowhere either - they got #1 AND #2 worst fans in a recent poll. An ex of mine was on a ski trip with me years ago and brought a friend of hers. One of the nicest guys I've met, but the Skins-Bucs playoff game came on, and he turned into an animal. Something in the water there....

Steckel didn't fit in during his short stint with us, didn't impress. As stated in the article, the Devils have too many young guys that need to play, there just isn't a place for him on our team.

steckel could have survived the wave of young forwards coming into nj, it was the suprising play of sykora that pushed him out.
granted its only preseason but sykora had a really impressive showing, stecks was simply a victim of it.

best of luck to him. god knows he's going to need it for at least the first few days... i'm sure he'll hear plenty of questions regarding his 'hit' during the winter classic
