Band of Brothers
A Dreamer...trying to find my way home for dinner
The Giants are celebrating the Dave Dravecky comeback game today at AT&T Park.
To me he is much more that that. He is a inspiration of mine on what he has been through and how he has handled the loss of his left arm. You look at him and he commands a room when he speaks now. You will never know what it's like to lose a limb or limbs until it actually happens to you. I lost all my toes on my right foot to amputation last winter. When it happens you go through a state of shock for a while. I prayed and prayed that the doctors would not take my entire foot .
Until something happens like losing a limb most of us take it for granted to just walk to the store or jog in the park. Man, sitting in the hospital for almost two months was tough. You get these things called phantom pains where my toes were and it gets kinda freaky. When I was in the hospital I made friends with a guy named Dave who lost his leg to Diabetes and he was a religious guy. I thought of all the shit he was going through and he kept it cool. One of our other friends in there Tommy Boy passed away and it affected us a lot. That's why seizing the day means so much more to me now because I don't take today for granted. Dave and I both made it out and back into the game of life once again.
I knew if I was going to get out of there my attitude would take me a long way. I kept thinking of the upcoming baseball season and watched 49ers games. I thought of Dravecky and what he accomplished in his life and how he has used his faith to heal himself. I always liked watching him pitch and he was a intense dude on mound. He has a ton of guts and I listen to his words more intensely now because I have been through amputation too.
I will remember what Dravecky did on that sunny day in August way back when shutting down the Reds but to me he represents the fight of a man that has moved on and inspired others on a daily basis. Dave Dravecky still throws shut outs each day but now he uses his words.
Thanks to Dave Dravecky for being a inspiration to me and others.
Go Giants !!
Go Dave Dravecky !!
