of course, he'll probably have to change his name to Mark Danton...

Mark Dantonio, MSU •

This is a dark horse to consider. (And only in this search would Dantonio be considered a dark horse.) Dantonio has led Michigan State to 11 wins in three of the past four years — and to the Big Ten title in 2013 — with a never-fail, old-as-football-itself system: run the football, protect the football, makes plays downfield, hit the quarterback, jam up receivers, tackle, convert on special teams. If not as big-time as Saban, not as trendy as Fisher, not as local as Gundy nor as explosive as Malzahn, Dantonio would put the bread and butter back in Texas football.

Would be a great move by UT to get him AND Narduzzi, but I don't think his name is a big enough splash to appease the idiots who are demanding a big name.

He was born in Texas. I don't think he lived here long though as Ohio is where he is from. I like the guy to be honest. Cut his teeth under Earle Bruce, Nick Saban, and Jim Tressell. Could do a lot worse. I think his name is plenty big. Only downside is he is 57. If you consider that a downside. I personally don't. I don't really want to risk hiring wonder boy who doesn't pan out. We need to regain momentum. Nothing would doom our program more than hiring "the next big thing" who turns out to be Lane Kiffin. I'll take a shorter total lifespan at Texas any day if winning is what he does while he is here.

He is a little long in the tooth.

If you are going to be a little bit concerned with Saban's age, then its doubly a red flag with a less accomplished (albeit very good) coach.

We saw what happened when Mack got a little older and lost some of his youthful fire.

I am leaning towards looking for age 43-51 range with a good pedigree.....

If Dantonio takes the UT job, what are the chances MSU promotes Narduzzi?

What are the chances that ANY coach from here on out makes it past 10 years?

With the accelerated expectations and tv money...

I'd say 57 would be perfect...but a MAN WHO'S FORTYsomething would be perfecter.

the odds are astronomically in favor...
Narduzzi's kids would jump into hell for the guy.
I've wanted Narduzzi to take the reins for two years now.

I'm rooting for Narduzzi to get a HC job somewhere. There is some noise that BOB may leave PSU, maybe he could land there if MD stays at MSU. The B1G needs great coaches to turn things around.

Just had a cold chill take over my body. I might heave. You scared me to the bone, sir.

If O'Brien does leave Penn State, I would not be surprised to see PSU target Pennsylvania native, and current Vanderbilt head coach, James Franklin.

It'd be funny if he won a title at Texas, then decided he'd like to try the NFL, but after a couple years he decided that he's better as a college coach, so he's goes back to a college team, then we can all call him a dick and change his name to Mark DanDiablo.

when asked if he'd consider Texas, Coach Dantonio replied:

"Michigan State is a Destination...not a Stop."

clever fucker...complimented Spartan Nation and deferred the question at the same time...his 'desirability index' probably just doubled.

fer sure he's gone now.:bawling::clap:
